Solved Problem after updating Windows 11 to 24H2

My desktop was updated a few days ago and all seems okay apart from my Webcam. It's an older Creative model VF0380 Live! Cam Optia Pro.
The update said I should unplug the camera during the installation and following this it fails to work afterwards.

It's old and I rarely use it but following removing the camera I now get an error on boot that reports Problem Starting V0380Pin.dll

Any ideas to remove this error? I did track the .dll to my hidden AppData folder but cannot delete it. Hence my request for help.

Have you tried removing the camera from device manager?
Should be listed under Imaging Devices.
May have to first go to View then "show hidden devices" in device manager to see it.

This indicates some driver file is missing. Download latest drivers from Creative for Windows 8 or 10 64-bit and install them. They also work in Windows 11.

Since creative has not updated the driver for that device since 2009 it's a wonder it has worked this long. The only suggestion I have is to open device manager,find your camera, right click and select uninstall. Be sure to check the box to remove driver. Restart and see if windows will install a generic driver.
You should be able to use autoruns to disable loading V0380Pin.dll at startup. Autoruns is standalone. Right click on Autoruns.exe & select run as administrator. Under "everything" tab Find V0380Pin.dll and uncheck it. Then restart.

@KevTech The camera was Uninstalled from Device Manager.
@spapakons The camera is old and there are no drivers for it any more.
@glasskuter Thank you for the link ... I used autoruns and deleted the errant entry. All sorted now and confirmed with a reboot.

As if to mess me about, my daughter wants to Skype on Tuesday ... she's in Hong Kong, so a new camera is winging it's way to me as I type.

Yes I was aware of the Creative support pages ... I'd visited them first.

The driver for the camera does not work properly with Windows 11. It's a rather hit/miss affair. It will work with the camera app, then stops. Skype can be working one moment and frozen the next.

Decision was taken to replace with something a little better/newer so waiting on the replacement now.

I was about to suggest that too. No point fighting too long for an old webcam. Today a new webcam is not that expensive.

I was slow to respond to my older Dell laptop with Win-11 update and it started to download 24H2 before I could put updates off for a week. So I just hot the power button and shut it down. When I power up and start the update will continue with 24H2 so I forget how to stop it at that point. MS make simple routines confusing. I suppose I can just let go then stop it during install, huh? I want to wait until MS slowly and intermittently works out all their bugs before updating.

Luckily this new laptop has not started that update.

If you want to put off getting new versions you can set your target version and stay on that version until it reaches end of service. If you want to stay on 23h2, just use 23h2 as your target and you won't be given 24h2 through windows update until support for 23h2 ends.
