Windows 11 Home 64-bit
I am running windows 11 home, latest version and updates. I am the only user and therefore have admin account. All of a sudden programs wont open normally from menu or shortcuts. BUT if I track down the exe file right click and run as admin they open. I have not done anything to do this is there a general setting to change this. Looking at prog properties there is no check box for admin only to uncheck.

Please go back to your other thread and add a link to this one. You have now asked the same question in two threads, it doesn’t help. 🙏

Edit:

Don’t worry, I’ll do it

Mike, I am not sure what’s happening, sorry. The forum will be more populated in a few hours, hopefully members can help.

For the time being, best not to experiment unless you immediately reverse the changes if they don’t work. The more you do the more things get complicated, the harder it is for members to help.

No if I pin a shortcut to start menu and click, just shows hour glass for a second then nothing. But if I right click run as admin, then UAC control comes up and if I press yes, programme opens.

I am the only user and therefore have admin account. All of a sudden programs wont open normally from menu or shortcuts. BUT if I track down the exe file right click and run as admin they open.
As a test create a new local account, make it an administrator, then sign out and sign into this new account.

OK will try that. But from last message if I create a desktop shortcut I still need it to run as admin for it to work.

Did you try the tutorial?

Great, option 3 of the tutorial actually worked. So was something corrupt then? Great back in business.

Spoke too soon. OK it worked with this solution yesterday. Today on booting up same issue can only open programs with admin. Doing the same option 3 no longer works. Should I try to set up another profile, or is there a setting somewhere regarding permissions I should look for somewhere.

Yes, create a new, extra profile and see what happens. All your personal files will be safe. With admin privileges you could move them to the new profile.

Ok I've added another account called Mike 2 and it's admin
If I reboot it just loads the original account. I don't get an option to log in or log off. BTW it's a local account which is the only ones I use

That didnt work well. I lost all my programs and there was no start button. So I had to do alt ctrl del to get back. And when I used to load software I always selected all users. Perhaps when I get off vacation I will do a clean install, havent done one in a few years, just the usual upgrades through win update.

Important update for all those who use CCleaner! The problem is solved, I had updated my CCleaner professional program. It had put all my programs to sleep - which is an option on the program but normally you select the ones you want:) So I had to wake them all up!
