Solved QTTabBar

What happens if you select the Qttabbar - bottom vs the Qttabbar toolbar?
For some reason in '11 I'm using the 1st: Having just tried selecting the Qttabbar toolbar, I find it appears as normal, but dismissing it or selecting Qttabbar - bottom leaves the bar with no tabs!
Same here..., the Tab Bar seems to go hidden on the far right, I have to unlock the Toolbar and drag it back to where it was...

Mm.. that's different behaviour.. if I enable the command bar in '11 it appears as normal; if I disable it, the tab vanishes, but the bar remains.
You also appear to have a set of menu options to the left where that bar is.

Yup, but it only happens when invoking then dismissing the Tab Bar (bottom)..., all other Toolbars work normally.

Whereas I see the whole of the bar remain, whether I disable it or choose to enable the bottom bar instead.

So for me, enabling the Qttabbar toolbar is fine, only disabling it isn't.

No problem with the bottom bar.

Have you tried using just that?

How did you get File, Edit, View, Tools and Qttabbar toolbar on the same horizontal line?

(I'm using v2048 btw)

Sometimes I'll get that..., it's hit and miss!

Yeah, but I don't like the bar on the bottom.

Move them up and down while unlocked...

- that tutorial seems to have a pink line saying the file e. menu bar as you have it shouldn't exist.. normally Brink uses that to indicate the tutorial is no longer valid for current builds. Not sure how to read it.
Just out of curiosity I tried the reg file.. did nothing despite restarting f. explorer

I think there was a clash between QTTabBar and StartAllBack in Win7 mode..., I haven't a clue what invoked it, or how to get rid of it, so I guess it stays.
QT version 1038 has a toggle for it but not v.2048.

That tutorial has a reg file for adding it and one for removing it.. might work (but as I said I think the one for adding it didn't work for me). I don't have that as you can see.

From what I've seen of both your experience and mine, it seems that (for me) the tabbar can be added in the upper position above the pane, but removal can have an odd effect (but not always) and in yours, as shown. Whereas placing it at the bottom in Win 11 (which you don't prefer) seems problem free.

I don't use tabs that much- it's neater at the bottom now, so that's ok for me. Sounds as if you've tried both builds of Qttabbar too.

Never worked for me either.
I haven't a clue how the Menu Bar got included in my Build, but, I like having it, just in case the Tab Bar does the vanishing act, I still have access to toggles...

Yup. Mysterious!

I run 1038 on my Desktop, and 2048 on my Laptops.

[Added on April 3 2026] Regarding the mandatory activation of id:57048237 after KB5086672

After installing KB5086672 (OS builds 26200.8117 and 26100.8117), released on March 31, 2026, id:57048237 we confirmed that it is forcibly enabled and enters a state of "Type: Override (forced overwrite)". In other words, after this update, it will no longer be possible to disable it with normal commands . The " QTTabBar Fix Tool " is required .\vivetool /disable /id:57048237 to disable it .

Microsoft won't stop messing around. :tears::tears::tears:

  • [Preparing for Future Specification Changes] Robust design anticipating future forced activation: In current versions of Windows, the new ID (57048237) can be disabled using only the standard ViveTool, but it is highly likely that in the next update, it will no longer be possible to disable it by normal means (it will be forcibly enabled). This tool anticipates this and has been designed and implemented in advance to ensure that the settings are reliably applied through its own registry rewriting process even if it is forcibly enabled.
Taken from the japanese blog. Let's get ready for hell with new Windows 11 updates.

Another thing that stumps me is, the Vertical Toolbar won't fully paint in 2048, like it does in 1038...

FWIW this is what I see with the vertical bar enabled, v2048:

Hmm, not going to be able to try that. Now, if I enable the vertical bar, it closes quite quickly... I haven't changed anything meanwhile. Even tried restarting...😟
