I looked at my memory through task manager and it seems as though almost a third is consumed by doing nothing of the 8 gigabytes of RAM. The rig was built with one stick of 8GB in the second slot as it should be.
Does the attachment look correct to you?
I am getting another stick Friday and I wonder what to expect after I've installed it in task manager?

That looks about right.
I have 16GB of RAM ...and Windows and a browser... uses about16-17%
So with only 8GB of RAM... I would be using about 34-35%.
Look at the bottom RED box. We are using about the same amounts.
It just looks worse on yours, because you only have 8GB.
These days, for normal usage... 16GB is probably the sweet spot.
It's rapidly getting to where 32GB will be the sweet spot.

So it is Windows and a browser that consumes that amount. Chrome consumes a lot and I also keep Edge for when I need a second browser.

@Maranna
This RAM is tested compatible with your motherboard...
G.Skill Trident Z Royal 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory (F4-3200C16D-16GTRS)
pcpartpicker.com
It's better to buy RAM in matched sets. Buying one 8GB stick... then later buying another, might have some issues.
Buy the matched 16GB set, and save the 8GB stick you have for emergencies.

Yes. Windows and whatever browser you have open.
Look in Task Manager on the Processes tab, and click on the Memory column (at the top)...
to get the highest numbers at the top.
All the ones in the blue boxes... (scroll down for more) are the Windows Services.
And the green boxes are more Windows and driver junk.
I also run Bitdefender Internet Security AV/firewall, which use a lot... too.
And that's only the top half of Task Manager.
P.S. I only have Firefox open, with 5 tabs... and already it's using 3/4 of a GB

W11 requires only 1gb of RAM with all the intrusive services disabled. The essencial core processes are something between 63 and 74 processes.
