Reactivating Dead laptop

I have a Lenovo IdeaPad 3 14Hl05 laptop which was originally my late brothers. I reset it to factory settings to give to my grandson some months ago. Due to complications this is only about to happen now. Unfortunately the computer appears to be dead. I have opened it up and have discovered that both the CMOS and main rechargeable batteries are completely dead and the main battery won't recharge. I have now replaced both batteries with new ones but the computer still won't boot, indeed the switch light does not come on when the start switch is pressed nor do any images appear on the screen Incidentally I think this laptop was originally on Windows 10 but was factory upgraded to Windows 11
Is there anything else I can try to reactivate the laptop or is it now irreversibly dead?

It seems that your MoBo is dead. If it is, nothing you can do will bring it to life again.
I have an old HP that was given to me and the MoBo was dead. I found a new MoBo on a site and it's working again. But to change the MB on a laptop you have to disassemble it entirely. Mot an easy task.
I suggest you look and buy a second hand laptop to your grandson.
Does any light comes on when you insert the battery charger?

Try it with the actual power cord. If you get nothing with the power cord, then...
It probably is dead, but at least I can give you ten points for filling out your computer specs.

Some Laptops have a tiny hole (battery reset) underneath but that laptop doesn't, so ...

Try do a slow trickle charge to safely wake up the battery cells.


Perform a Power Drain (Hard Reset)
When a battery drains to zero, the motherboard can sometimes get stuck in a protection mode. A power drain clears this out.

1. Unplug the charging cord from the laptop.
2. Unplug all USB devices, mice, or headphones.
3. Press and hold the Power Button for 30 to 45 seconds.
4. This drains any leftover electricity hiding in the laptop's chips.

- Remove the battery from inside the Lenovo, leave it out for at least an hour then put it back in.

The Trickle Charge

1. Plug the official Lenovo charger into a known working wall outlet.
2. Plug the other end into your laptop.
3. Check for the charging light on the side or near the charging port.
4. Do not turn the laptop on yet. Let the laptop charge while completely turned off for at least 3 to 4 hours. Fully dead batteries need a slow, gentle charge to wake up safely.

Power On

1. After 4 hours, leave the charger plugged in and press the power button.
2. If it turns on, you are all set. [1]

Reset the Battery Driver (If it gets stuck at 0%)


Not sure if this is relevant to the Lenovo?

1. Turn on the laptop and log in.
2. Right-click the Windows Start button and select Device Manager.
3. Click the arrow next to Batteries to open the list.
4. Right-click on Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and select Uninstall device.
5. Restart your computer. Windows will automatically reinstall the correct battery driver when it boots up.

Good luck, you never know. But I have had to do this with 2 different Lenovo's before, with success.
