For the first time recently, Windows informed me it ran into a problem, and needed to restart. (Don't know why).

The error code was 0x00000154, according to Reliability History (not that I understand any of that).

If this was the first time it happened and everything is working normally, I wouldn't be concerned. If it happens again let us know.

Just use your computer. You'll know soon enough is something isn't working as it should. My guess is you won't have any issues. These glitches can happen now and then.

Just ran a chkdsk /f /r, and no issues found.

I don't let myself be concerned about just one restart either as windows has been known to fart occasionally. With multiple restarts per co-pilot the most common causes are

  • Failing or unstable SSD/HDD
  • Storage controller or chipset driver problems
  • File system corruption
  • Defective RAM
  • Third-party antivirus or filter drivers
  • Firmware/BIOS issue
Review the minidump (C:\Windows\Minidump) with WinDbg.

Check SSD/HDD health (SMART data) using CrystalDiskInfo, Hard Disk Sentinel, or Disk manufacturer tool.

From cmd as admin DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
Followup with sfc /scannow

Run Windows Memory Diagnostic or more in-depth using MemTest86 for 4 runs. One reported failure is considered a test fail.

Update storage/chipset drivers and BIOS.

I wouldn't know how to review the minidump with WInDbg.

I do have CrystalDiskInfo (Portable). I will try that and try and let you know in due course.

This is the first time I have known it happen though.

Just to let you know, there is another thread on here whereby I was having issues trying to install a Patch Tuesday update very recently.

Please let me know (as I am a novice) how I would post CrystalDiskInfo results please.
