Ah. Apparently you can update packages this way using the name, but for new installs you need to use the ID maybe. That seems to be the case so far...

winget knows how to install new packages from two diffferent sources: MS Store, or packages listed in the winget-pkgs Repository. You can have a private winget repo source, but that's another topic.

If your package isn't registered in the GitHub repository, then it's not accessible by name. MS provides these apps on winget-pkgs:
winget-pkgs/manifests/m/Microsoft at master · microsoft/winget-pkgs

Basically after your Store app is locally installed, you can reference it by name (because winget's database remembers the package's origin).

Some of you may have forgotten winget didn't originally have access to Store apps, and Windows users spent a few years complaining until the winget & Store teams worked it out.

"VLC" also appears in the ID, so that may be why that works.

In the case of the Snipping Tool, there are a few things that come back in the results when querying for that name, so I would use the ID of a known package just to be safe anyway.

I have a question.
Does anyone know how I can do a silent install this in Windows 11 Pro.
I already have the file in the Oem Scripts folder.

This is the file I have Paint 3D.

Microsoft.MSPaint_2023.2310.24037.0_neutral_~_8wekyb3d8bbwe.AppxBundle

And then put the cmdline, or powershell line in setupcomplete or usertweaks in the ISO file.

Or can I slipstream it into WinToolkit or something?

For best results, you should integrate (slipstream) the Paint 3D package into the install WIM. But if that's too hard, then install it from Post-Setup.
Preinstall Apps Using DISM

DISM needs to have a copy of any pre-requisite libraries around, when you're servicing Appx packages that need them.

Find a copy of these files from store.rg-adguard.net (same page you downloaded Paint 3D):

I prefer NTLite. The free edition can add Appx packages as "updates" to a loaded image. It's good software if you're working anyway on Windows install images.

You can do DISM integration by hand, by following the linked MS docs. Just fix the pathnames, when copying & pasting from their examples.

1. Load your Windows ISO, pick which edition you're updating.
2. Copy Paint3D, Microsoft.UI.Xaml, and Microsoft.VCLibs package files to the same folder.
3. Under the "Updates" page, add the same folder and NTLite will import all recognized packages.
4. Head over to the Apply page. Process.

No futzing with Post-Setup scripts. Unless you enjoy that more.

Reviewing the AppxManifest for MSPaint_2024.2410.13017, it wants a copy of Microsoft.UI.Xaml.2.0 and not the Microsoft.UI.Xaml.2.7.

I have all the files I need.
Downloaded all the different versions.
But the MSPaint is not installed.
The other files are in the WindowsApps folder.

The other 2 I get the message of existing item, and I can't add.

I have news regarding Paint 3D, I have slipstreamed Paint 3D into a Windows 11 ISO with NTLite.
Tried everything, then removed the MRP files, DeCompile.exe and the MRPConfig.ini.
Then I had all the files installed in the WindowsApps folder.
I even had 4 folders of Paint 3D.
Also the other folders that were normally emptied by MRP, were now just full of files again.
So something must be going wrong in MRP somewhere.
