I've tried and read several articles about how to remove unwanted icons in the bottom lower of the task bar (near the clock)
I have 3 icons (shortcuts) to programs that that I don't need because I can access those programs elsewhere.

settings>personalization>taskbar>other system tray icons
toggle off the ones you do not want to see in the system tray

Yep, That's the first thing I tried. Everything in that list in turned off.

Looks to me like you’re using some kind of start menu/taskbar user interface hack. StartAllBack or something?
Have you investigated that?
What Icons?
What have you already tried?

Disable the hack
Remove the icons (Right click/unpin?)
Turn hack on again if you want to

Yes, I'm using "StartAllBack" I like the old look. 😊
I tried to attach a screen shot of the unwanted icons.
I can right click on each one of them (exit) but they all return after a re-start.

Well I don’t need to tell you, that’s not normal.

Liking the old look is fine, but it would seem StartAllBack is possible causing this.

Which is why I suggested:
Disable StarAllBack
Remove the icons (Right click/unpin?)
Turn hack on again if you want to

Clicking “Exit” to my knowladge only closes an app. Unpin removes from Taskbar, but I don’t use StartAllBack so I have no idea what settings you need to look at.

Check the settings in the programs themselves

Are they programs you want running in the background all the time, anyway? If not, disable them in Startup ... (Ctrl+Alt+Del > Task Manager > Startup apps > right-click app > Disable > reboot

Also look for the program name in Services. If it's running, right click > Properties > Stop > then either Disabled, or set to manual

Unfortunately, some poorly written/programmed 3rd party software are designed to deliberately cause this phenomenon, steeped in their own self-importance that they must be visible all the time, at the users inconvenience, and annoyance.

If you have third party apps that keep loading on startup along with their icons and they aren't in the task manager startup apps listing then you may want to open and check the Task Scheduler for apps in there that are scheduled to load on startup. One notorious example is the intel Killer performance suite. You can either disable or delete them from the Task Scheduler.
