So I have the update problem associated with KB5015814 won't install, and until reading this thread I had been ignoring it thinking...
1. a future update might fix it
2. maybe Windows 22H2 come along and fix it for me.

But as the 2nd is still an unknown, I guess I need to do a repair install.
Now my question is.
the instructions here say:
The Windows 11 installation media (ISO or USB) must be the same edition, same version, and same or higher build as the currently installed Windows 11.
I can do two of those but the ISO you download isn't the same Build number as it lacks all the CU.
Is it okay to use it?

no rush, I need to work out how to disable BItdefender before I do it, and I shouldn't do it tonight as its late. I don't need to be awake all night fixing the PC :)

The current RTM [fully released] Version on my Win11 computers is Version 21H2 (OS Build 22000.795) and having no issues with KB5015814. There was no 22H1 released. From what I've read the next upgrade is Version 22H2 and probably around Sept. or Oct. It is possible Bitdefender is an issue and some have had issues with other AV programs, I am using with Windows Security and no need to disable it first.

Is it okay to use it?
Yes but it may not repair the files and/or registry keys which have become corrupted. It really depends on why the update in question isn't installing and to investigate that, you'll need to take a look through the CBS log(s).

As for the second part of the post, the MCT/Media Creation Tool may be a few Build updates older than the current but they usually don't take long after the install has completed. If the Version and base Build number [i.e. Version 21H2 Build 22000] is the same as installed or newer than installed there should not be major issues.

lets see, since the previous patches I was having problems with the search indexer constantly running, I have disabled that.
the process doesn't clean up after itself, every restart after an update it has an oops moment where it needs to restart and roll back changes.

i have run dism and sfc already since it failed last week and they have found nothing wrong
I just ran Repair-WindowsImage -Online -RestoreHealth and it found nothing
running sfc again

they didn't find anything again. Guess I can supply cbs logs if anyone wants to read them??

Otherwise I assume ISO is version 22000? is that the same enough build as 22000.739, that is mainly my question. I figured I would need to get CU again.
I probably uninstall malwarebytes and Bitdefender to do repair. I have my reasons for using them otherwise.

Go to Download Windows 11 and follow the choices, select the ones for a different computer. I save the .iso file used to create the bootable DVD, will need a DVD-R or DVD+R disc [don't use RW] or possibly the DVD+R/DL [DualLayer] and I use an 8GB USB Thumb drive for that choice.

I had to do an in place upgrade for my ..5814 update. Only fix I found that worked for me.

I used the media creation tool and a USB flash drive.

The in place upgrade failed on my existing build, twice. I backed up my msword files that were new or changed and fell back to an older (May) Macrium full disc image. Using the May version it failed at the end of the upgrade and I had to use my Macrium rescue flash drive to fix the boot loader. But surprise when I booted up. I was at build 22000.795 and the ..5814 update was listed as installed.

I learned something. I assumed it would remove my history of updates that happened before the repair install, but no, still 50 feature updates showing in Update history.
