Apps Reset and Re-register Start Menu in Windows 11

Start_banner.png

This tutorial will show you how to reset and re-register the Start menu for your account (current user) or all users in Windows 11.

The Start menu is comprised of three sections: Pinned, All apps, and Recommended. The Start menu contains shortcuts of all your apps, settings, and files. These do not get reset or cleared with you reset and re-register the Start menu.

If the Start menu is not opening or working properly, then resetting or re-registering the Start menu may help fix it.

If you get the Deployment failed with HRESULT: 0x80073D02, The package could not be installed because resources it modifies are currently in use error message below when running the command in option 1 or 2, you will need to kill the Windows Shell Experience Host process in Task Manager, and run the command again afterwards.

Stop-Process -Name "StartMenuExperienceHost" -Force

Try to uninstall StartAllBack by using Revo Uninstaller Free and clean all registry entries that are show by that program.
Then try again. Is the start menu not working (too) if using the Windows key?

And you could, as @Brink told before, try to add a new user account, switch over to that and see if your startmenu is functioning in that account. In that way you could find out if the problem lays in the account information or in Windows itself. Possibly you'll have to do a fresh Windows install at the end.
Creating the new local account didn't help. Start menu doesn't want to open still :-(.

Might be time for a "clean install" of Windows 11.

And this time, use backup software. :-)

Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 15 years?

May the problem be caused due the old graphic card and driver? ATI HD 5570 and driver from 2016.
Clean reinstall I did before but it didn't help.

I've tried this and it doesn't seem to do anything. I'm trying to reset/recreate all the system folders like System, Accessories and their contents without having to reinstall Windows. Is there any way to do this?

Hello Gordy, and welcome to the forum. :alien:

This doesn't affect the items in the Start Menu > Apps list.

You can manually copy any missing items back to your Start Menu from another account or computer though. The tutorial below can help show you how to.
