Win11
Hi all

i play Elite Dangerous, and have recently altered my graphics set-up in the game after following some tutorials. i use a Gefore RTX 3060, and i set the Dynamic Super Resolution to 2.25x as part of this, and set the game's reolution to 2880x1620.
the issue i have is that i'm frequently alt-tabbing back to the internet whilst docking or whatever, and my normal desktop etc is at 1920x1080, and very often when i tab back the resolution will not switch to this unless i Flag-D to the desktop ~ is there any way of making Win 11 a bit more effective in swapping the resolutions?

TIA

spoke too soon it seems. although the fix works it seems to affect the game at certain points, giving horrific shaking. i play on steam so it seems that fix above won't work

What if you change your desktop resolution to the resolution of the game so they are the same? You should increase scaling too or everything will be too small.

Windows seems to have problems starting some games the same way twice in a row. Especially on a system with a lot of games. Best solution I've come up with for OP's problem is to set every game to output at the same (but lower than native) resolution, even with a GPU capable of rendering some games at max settings in 4k at a decent frame rate.

None. Manully configured so nobody except me can change any critical system files. (Don't ask how, it's probably against some rule somewhere)
DSR is one method of Anti-aliasing and a resource hungry method as you are rendering game frames at 2.25 times the native resolution of your Display Panel.

The solution is to use one of the other Anti-aliasing choices you have within a game settings, rather than what is available from the Nvidia control panel.

There are other compatibility factors like G-sync/variable refresh and DPI of your monitor display panel, read up on the subject it is not easy to get your head around it.

DSR is used to render the game at higher resolution than the native of the monitor and it's then resized to the native resolution to display. It gives a little better quality at the expense of performance. If you play a fast action game, such as a battle, you can hardly notice the difference, so I would play at native monitor resolution and boost performance. However the OP's issue, if I understand it correctly, is that when switching to another application, and then to the game, it doesn't automatically switches back to the higher resolution. That's why I suggested to also set the desktop at the same resolution so there is no change.
