OS
Windows 11 Pro
I just installed tiny11, version 25h2.
- When I try to shutdown, I'm exited from the GUI but the computer is still on and I have to hold the power button to shut it down.
- If I try to restart, the GUI is also exited but the power stays like above, but it does not reboot

Summary is that the only effective way to shutdown or restart is by holding the power button.

I really like the distribution otherwise.

run command prompt as admin and run

Code:
shutdown.exe /r /f /t 00

does it hang or instantly reboot?

Thanks Dacrone, I got the same behavior. It shutdown but the power light is still on. No key entry in this state makes any difference. I have to manually push the start/stop physical button to kill the power.

I'm setting this up for my senior Mom with vision problems so trying to make this as easy as for her

please check
control panel > power options

when this window opens
on the left 'choose what the power buttons do'

in this window towards the bottom
check to see if 'fast boot' is enabled

if fast boot is enable click the option at the top
'change settings that are currently unavailable'

and then disable 'fast boot'
save settings and restart the system.

see if that allows the system to shut down properly.
best of luck Steve ..

No, same behavior. Interesting about the fast boot which was clicked on. I had already disabled that in the BIOS.

just leave it as it is for several days Windows will then start to shutdown and restart a lot quicker
once it gets to know what programs and software are being used on a regular bases.

then if there are still shutdown slowdowns then use this check list.

best of luck Steve ..

I've been having the same issue since the November Patch Tuesday last month. I put updates on hold until today but it's still happening again with this month's patch Tuesday!

When trying to shutdown it seems like it does, but the computer led stays on and so do the fans. Never seen anything like this.

Hibernation was off, DISM and SFC did nothing.

Lord, the Clean Boot process looks like a lot of steps.

Before I go ahead with all of that, I should probably confirm, when exactly in the process should I be doing that? Prior to these problematic updates, and then using the clean boot environment to install them?

- Loose or dirty connections between devices (HD/nvme/RAM/Cables) and MB can cause to slow down Startup/Shutdown proccess.
open the PC, clean all contacts, re-seat tightly back to MB. Disconnect any external USB device then reboot.
- run check disk on each HD/Nvme with /r switch.
- Sysem files corruption can also cause the problem. From admin command:
dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth&sfc /scannow&pause
- Apply the registry tweak from the attachment.

Good luck !!!
