Internet Explorer was the most used browser by a huge majority for many years for a reason. In the beginning it was excellent. But technology moved on, leaving IE behind. When IE finally died, it no longer was a good browser, as reflected by few using it anymore.

I didn't think I would either...until It did. :)

I read a couple other sources earlier this morning (sorry I don't have them now, to post), that others have experienced issues by completely removing IE, as well.

I lack the knowledge to explain why. But for the time being, as stated previously, I reinstalled, and everything is good to go. It was only 3.20MB anyway, so no biggie. :wink:

And I have to wonder why. Was it because Internet Explorer was the best or was it because Internet Explorer was preinstalled? IMHO, a very large number of Internet Explorer users only used it because it was preinstalled and didn't know or didn't care that they could use a different browser.

Edit: For me ,Netscape was the best browser ever and Firefox is number 2. I do use the Canary builds of Edge on my devices that are running the Insider Builds. After getting use to it I have to admit that I do like it but it's still number 2 compared to Firefox.

I can’t recall which alternative browsers I used first but I remember chrome when it first hit Windows and used Safari just before that

I used it exclusively from 1999 to about 2018 when I switched to Edge. I never had any issues with it and preferred it over every alternative I tried. I never liked Firefox and Chrome was too intrusive. The best alternative to me was Opera but I still preferred IE. Now I use Chromium Edge exclusively and in my opinion, it's the best browser of all time. I will almost always use a Microsoft app unless something else is free and is much better. My default media player has always been the Windows one and I used to love Outlook Express for email. I like Outlook but will not pay for it. I use Thunderbird which is very similar to Outlook.

Today, I was on my Company intranet, and one of the links does not work. I called IT, and they said that link only works with Internet Explorer.

I pointed out that the company has stopped us using IE now with a group policy update but of course, it is "more than their job's worth" to remove the restriction even temporarily LOL! I hate IT departments with a passion as they forget they do not bring in the income like my colleagues and myself!

I agree. I use Microsoft Edge on all my devices. The difference here is that I subscribe to Microsoft 365. I think it's an incredible bargain at $69 annually. I get all of Microsoft Office, always up to date, including my email favorite, Microsoft Outlook. Very importantly for me, Microsoft 365 includes 1TB of Microsoft OneDrive. I keep all my data in my OneDrive folder and get a real-time mirror backup in cloud OneDrive.

My first online experience was with Prodigy from Sears. With Prodigy I didn't need a browser because it was all proprietary. Then a local Internet provider became available. While waiting for them to send me the info to setup my account I purchased the Netscape Browser from (I think) Electronic boutiques. When I got the package, the setup included Netscape. I continued to use Netscape until it was no longer updated.

IE was never a good browser, it was a shiny blue bug laden, slow POS security nightmare from day 1 to today

except it still runs just fine on Windows 11 even today. It may be a glitch or a bug, but I can absolutely launch it and browse the internet.

Edge is just Webkit, which is based on Safari, and the basis for Chromium - it's Chrome, Edge, Opera, et al.

The original Edge was at least its own animal, but they didn't put the resources into it to make it worth a lick, and just grabbed the Chromium base and did it that way. Shame really, Chrome is as much of a POS as IE.

Hi,
Why the heck does steam require ie11 to be activated in programs and features before it successfully create a Working game shortcut to desktop

I was always wondering why 3dmark and of course some game shortcuts all stopped working
It was because I disabled ie11 with turn windows feature on or off :look:

Now what is ms going to do to it to kill my game.. shortcuts :boom:

So Webkit, except it siphons all your personal data/telemetry to Google instead of Microsoft.

are there any browsers left that don't use Webkit? Aside from Firefox, I think everything is. Kinda weird that the most popular browser in the world for Windows was created by Apple.
