Windows 11 Pro
Thought many Win 11 users might want to know whether this great old freebie was still ok in Win 11 and more than happy to find that it is. Development ceased in October 19 but as it was stable in Win 10 I thought it probably would be in 11 too. For those who don't know it's a snapshot system with which you can step back or forward in time in just a minute or two and if you have never tried it then you should. The free version allows 7 snapshots. This suits me as I always uninstall it monthly, take a Macrium image and reinstall it.

When dealing with snapshots etc I would not trust my system to a program that it no longer supported. I will stick to Macrium Reflect and Aomei Backupper both of which offer a free version. @fixer can you edit you original post as it has a lot of blank lines it it.:)

This is what I said - "I always uninstall it monthly, take a Macrium image and reinstall it." You really need to use the program to understand the massive difference between restoring an image and restoring a snapshot. You also need to use it to learn whether you can trust it.

That sounds something like what the old Ghost program use to do. I used Ghost years ago until Norton bought it and IMHO, ruined it.

I will use MR and create and restore images. I have NEVER had a problem and I find it not only troublesome, but a waste of time to install a Program take a Snapshot and then remove the program. This may have been necessary back in the 90's but most users of Windows have moved on to more sophisticated programs. I bought MR but the free version works great.

So you didn't wonder why I would still be using MR as well as Rollback? Reason is that Rollback is not a backup program at all and creates no backup files anywhere. Someone once described it as System Restore on steroids and that's pretty accurate. It restores your system to the exact state it was in when the selected snapshot was created, exactly as MR does, but does so in no more than the time it takes to reboot - way under a minute on modern systems. Used disk space very slightly increases with each new snapshot but that is not usually an issue these days either. If you choose to uninstall it, as I do about monthly, you choose the snapshot you now want as your base system and all others are lost. That's where a MR image might come in handy, as it also would if you had a disk failure. There's a pro version which is still in support but it's not cheap and I've always been ok with the free Home version.
