The latest versions of Rufus, has the (Optional) ability to take the Nasties out of a Windows ISO as it burns it to a USB Flash Drive.
I wonder of any of the other programs mentioned will do this?
Just curious! Not that I really care, because I'm a real Rufus fan. I used it twice just yesterday.
In this example, Rufus is ready to burn a Windows 11 ISO to a Flash Drive.
The options change a little if I'm burning a Windows 10 ISO, because Win-10 does not have as many compatibility issues.

I've used Rufus a lot, and never had it fail on me. And it's really simple to use.

Just used Rufus to switch all 4 of my home built PC's over to Win 11 and it worked like a charm ..... A simple easy to use fantastic app that I will definitely be using in the future.

No, it won't

Since that update will be an enablement package, that also implies that 22H2 and 23H2 will be serviced using the same update packages which in turn means no major architectural changes.

Rufus works great as a tool for creating a system reset disk. Much faster to reinstall windows when the installation media is on a NVME drive vs. a USB flash drive.

Very true. Just note that you don't need Rufus to prep an SSD. The procedure is identical to prepping a UFD.

Also works great on a NVMe drive in a $20 USB 3.2 enclosure. That's been a real game changer, being the only idiot in my social circle to have openly admitted the ability to (sometimes) fix user errors and hardware failures. Turned a hobby into a second income.

I went back and re-read my earlier post. It may sound like I was discouraging use of Rufus, but that it is not the case. I was merely pointing out that an SSD can be prepped in the same manner as a UFD without the necessity for any other software.

Those who know me also know that I have this weird kink for always trying to do as much as possible without any third party utilities. However, that said, I do actually make sure that I always have the latest version of Rufus in my toolkit of what I consider to be absolutely necessary utilities that I keep readily available on every single machine.

That has me thinking - maybe I should start a thread asking people what utilities they consider absolutely necessary parts of their toolkit. I'll bet I could learn about a few utilities that I am unaware of. Maybe we'll start that discussion tomorrow.

Some people simply have no other choice, e.g. because they don't have the necessary permissions to run 3rd party utilities in their work environment. Aside from this, I don't see a whole lot of logical reasons why anyone would want to try to avoid, almost altogether, 3rd party utilities. It really does add the impression of trying to overly stigmatize the bulk of 3rd party utilities. Personally, I, use Windows exactly because it gives the ability to choose the sort of 3rd party software that no other OS lets me use. (That in fact is among primary reasons why I haven't switched to Linux.)

Disagree. But hear me out.

If a person advocates readers only using built-in utilities, that is one thing. I agree with you wholeheartedly in your statement.

But when a person freely admits that they, themselves, have a penchant desire to avoid using 3rd party utilities, it is in no way binding on anyone else, and because of the admission of the fact that this is the way that they do it should never be taken as a mandate that everyone else should also do this.

That's like saying I enjoy driving my 2007 Infiniti M35 because of its great V6. That does not equate to "I think everyone reading my post should only be driving a 2007 Infiniti M35" in any way, manner, shape, or form, and anyone who does take it that way needs to go back and read more carefully. Read the words for what they are, and less for what you think they mean.

As for why a person would make such an admission - personal preference is a great place to start. Self-developed methods and tools is another.

One thing that comes from using built in tools is that you don't have a reliance on a tool that might not always be available to you at any given moment. Another is that you get to learn the inner workings of they system, making you able to troubleshoot things more easily, but also, if you're the type like I am, you simply enjoy learning and committing to memory how this can be done without any need to downloading anything from anywhere.
