Rumored... Windows File Explorer will tie into OneDrive, Microsoft 365

Office 365 is installed locally on the computer. you only need to be online to download and install it and get it activated. After that, you just need to be able to reconnect every 30 days for it to check in and validate that your subscription is still active.

The first time I tried to remove OneDrive I lost some files. Fortunately, I had a backup of these files. I then went online and found the correct steps to remove OneDrive. After that I was able to remove OneDrive safely.

BTW, Windows has an annoyance that even after you remove OneDrive, OneDrive is still available as an option for SaveAs. I just checked and found a file in OneDrive\Desktop. I must accidentally place it there by mistake. That is a real gotcha because without OneDrive active you might end up with two differnent copies of the same file.

If Microsoft wants to include OneDrive they need to include a simple tool to remove it safely without losing any files. A lot of people would welcome that.

I always uninstall OneDrive! It does reinstall on updates, but only takes a few seconds to uninstall. I might start using it as "non important file" backups, such as my HTML/CSS files and stuff like that.

Don't understand why people buy an Office subscription. With the release of ver 2021, ver 2019 can be bought very cheap
Last year, I bought 2 Office 2019 licenses, one Home Business 2019 Retail (US$ 60) and one Home Student 2019 Retail US$ 35)

The name "Office 365" has been changed to "Microsoft 365". I love it that my Microsoft 365 subscription includes 1TB of Cloud OneDrive. I have a 1TB SSD on my computer and I keep all my data and photos in my OneDrive folder. OneDrive keeps a complete real-time mirror of all my data in my 1TB Cloud OneDrive. I love it when I get a new computer and all I have to do is log in to Windows and all my data is instantly there!

Because I don't have to worry about compatibility issues, the software is always up to date, and since it's added to my Microsoft Account, I don't have to worry about activation issues. And you get 1TB of storage free.

Outside of fear and opposition, it's well worth the cost. But that's me (and many others)

I do the Microsoft 365 subscription because I consider it to be an incredible bargain. I get all of Microsoft Office installed for each family member, Office is always kept up to date, and very importantly each family member gets 1 TB of OneDrive Cloud storage. All this for an annual subscription of only $99 USD. The subscription automatically renews. I love it.

1. I can install it on five (5) computers.
2. Each of these computers get one terabyte of One Drive storage.
3. All the software (Word, Excel etc.) is always up to date.
4. I believe that for what you get, 20 dollars per year per computer is an incredible deal.

No, I am not a Microsoft shill. I just love the Office suite.

The uninstall of OD using Revo went well. There was a lot of residual stuff that Revo removed.
I don't have a need for keeping anything on this pc in the OD cloud. I can understand though where others might have such a need for this or other features or they may just want to try something out. It's always good to have options.

My Reason: OneDrive, 6TB of total space.

I buy an office subscription because it comes with OneDrive. I love having cloud storage, and for the regularly price of $99 a year, I get 6 accounts, all of which get 1TB each. I have 4 people in my immediate family. I give one subscription to my dad, and can share one with a friend. If we split it up, $99/6 is $16.50 per person a year. "IF", you wanted 1TB of cloud space, can you find it anywhere for $16.50 for a year?????

Now, the above perfectly satisfies me for the $99 a spent for a year. But I can also, if I want to, install Microsoft office on any/all of my machines. And since my daughter and I also have Mac's in addition to Windows machines, we have access to both the Mac versions and the PC versions.

I don't have to deal with providing credit card details to any shady license sellers that are most likely selling volume license keys that may or may not work, continue to work, or be able to move to another machine/device. I get the full version of the office suite, rather than the Home or Office version....so if I have a need for the other applications, I have access to them. And I always have the latest versions of the software and have no need to purchase additional licenses for new versions.
And when I get to a point where i don't want Microsoft Office, I can cancel my subscription. If I would have bought licenses for all the software on all of my devices, and later decided i didn't want it, i ate the cost of those licenses. And legit licenses for Office Professional are like $450 a pop....which will pay for nearly 5 years of Office/Microsoft 365.

Oh yeah, and through work, I'm eligible for a 30% discount on Microsoft Office 365 for personal use, so my $99 a year subscription for 6 is actually just $69.99 year.

Actually, i think you can technically install it on an unlimited number of devices per account....you can only be signed in and using 5 devices per account simultaneously.

I agree that I think this is one of the best deals ever. Been using it for 6 years now. 0 regrets.

Yep.

Me... I want as little in the cloud as possible. The thing that bothers me the most about anything cloud... is the fact that MY computer is too unimportant to BE a target for hackers. This is NOT the case for these huge cloud servers.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again... these cloud servers get hacked continuously.
They're NOT what I would consider secure storage.

I do understand that it's an evil that on-the-go people may have to deal with.
But as long as I'm not in that group... there's no sense risking what they have to risk.
