I've said it before, and I'll say it again... these cloud servers get hacked continuously.
They're NOT what I would consider secure storage.

I do understand that it's an evil that on-the-go people may have to deal with.
But as long as I'm not in that group... there's no sense risking what they have to risk.

Well, they're probably a bit MORE secure than we can be, but... they are a MUCH larger and tastier target than we are.

It's the same reason I don't go out on weekends and play tackle football with the Steelers.
I'm not getting millions a year to do so... so why take the risk.

If you're in a trench in a war zone... it's probably not a good idea to keep "sticking your head up".
If you do, some of those cyber bullets that are whizzing around are gonna hit you.

That said... I realize there are some that have to "play in that war-zone".
I wish them luck, but don't expect me to "go rushing out there" if I don't have to.

I was born and raised a Steelers fan... IN Pittsburgh. But I never watch them play... if I do, they lose. LOL

But I do like the quarterback, receiver pair-up they have now... Pickett and Pickens.
They even have great names for a quarterback and a receiver.

I do watch rehashes of the games occasionally. Pickett, has a true golden arm.
He just doesn't seem to miss what he's aiming at, no matter how many opposing players are in the way.
He only threw 9 interceptions all season.

While i agree that most hackers aren't going to look "specifically" for your computer, or my computer..... they are going to simply cast a really wide net (most of the time with prepackaged script kiddie type scripts), that are going to simply find any machine susceptible to a vulnerability. Therefore, we aren't necessarily a known target, but they will take us if they find us.

Agreed, and that's why i evaluate what i put in the cloud. for something like onedrive, I don't store usernames/passwords, banking information, credit card info, tax returns, etc. Those are kept elsewhere.

2. No matter how we define things... Microsoft and Google, are huge, juicy targets... for any accomplished hacker.
3. I don't think MS or Google even consider kiddie scripts a threat.
4. Lastly, as I said above... I'm fortunate enough to be in a position that I don't NEED to use any cloud services.

I use OneDrive and I love it, but my security is my backup strategy.
I use three backup methods simultaneously.
I will not put all my trust in only one strategy.
1. Microsoft OneDrive real-time mirror of all my data
2. Microsoft File History running on all my data
3. Macrium Reflect daily complete drive images

Yeah, of course Microsoft and Google are big targets and will get lots of directed hack attempts. Working in the enterprise world for a large fintech company, i have insights into the teams, tools, systems and such that we use to track, monitor, prevent, identify, and log this type of behavior. I'm not saying that if you implement tools breaches don't occur, obviously they do, but these large corporations are probably far more vigilant than the average joe in identifying and stopping this behavior.

And I think too that with something like OneDrive or Gmail, they are backing up data and keeping it far more redundant than my aunt sally could. You and I might have more of a sound backup plan than the average joe.

To each their own on the cloud storage front. Do whatever makes sense to you.

It's a question of quantity. No need to "wallow" in it.

Anyway... this is the bad part...

An internal mock-up of the new interface shows a new "recommended" section of files alongside the existing areas for pinned and recent files, with large previews of various documents and information about where the files are located (OneDrive, SharePoint, and the local Downloads folder are all listed) and about recent changes.

And where's File Explorer? Oh, it's that teeny icon in the lower right. :/

File Explorer... the way it was meant to be. (Oh yeah, and with a Menu bar as god intended it).

No... tabs, Home, Quick Access, Recommended, previews, etc.
If folks can't sort things into a few drive letters... then maybe they shouldn't be "driving" computers.

I don't use either. Don't like or care for this two apps and their features. For that reason - i had them disabled or/& removed since their early release. Thus, i'd really hate for Explorer to be directly tied to those two (even integrated - as part of the GUI). Cause to me, that sounds - like they're trying to force this apps on the users (probably realizing that a lot of Windows users ignore them). Somehow similar to the aggressive way they tried to promote Bing (at first was integrated in the browser, then they added it to Windows Search as well - while latter they even tried to force install it in other browsers - with the help of 3rd party apps/partners). Same goes for Edge more recently.
