OS
Windows 11 22H2
Hi all... running Win 11 21H2 on fully compatible Dell PC. Still no invite for 22H2. PC is running fine, looked thru the potential issues MS lists, and none seem to relate to my PC. Should I keep waiting or try the Installation Assistant? One concern is that MS says the Installation Assistant is for upgrades from Windows 10 to Windows 11.
I like to keep up to date, so any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Hello @Sniggler and welcome to ElevenForum. :-)

The easiest way to move to 22H2 is probably the In-place Upgrade/Repair...

Here is the short version of the In-place upgrade tutorial...

DISABLE non-Microsoft:
a) antivirus software
b) firewall software
c) drive encryption software

Make a full OS backup with a program like Macrium Reflect or AOMEI Backupper Standard
Macrium Reflect
AOMEI Backupper Standard

Get the Windows 11 ISO image and save it to your desktop...

Right click the ISO image and choose: MOUNT
Open File Explorer and you will see a new drive letter. It will "look" like a DVD optical drive.
Double click the new drive letter to open it.
Find setup.exe and double click it to start the in-place upgrade.

Choose the Keep personal files and apps option.

After it's all done... to UNmount the ISO image, right click the new drive letter and choose: EJECT.

The ONLY thing you will lose is some of your personalizations.
Your drivers, programs and data will be intact.

There is no need to wait for an invite to upgrade to Windows 11 22H2.

You can use the 22H2 'Create Windows 11 Installation Media' - here - to create a 22H2 bootable flash drive to update your system. With a bootable 22H2 flash dive, you can also use it to perform a reinstall or clean install of 22H2.

It also provides you with a tool to 'get-out-of jail-free' route if you get any problems with your system.

I would also advise that you take regular images / backups of your OS, apps & data - essential!

Hi all... running Win 11 21H2 on fully compatible Dell PC. Still no invite for 22H2.
Use this tutorial to check if a Target Release Version has been set as 21H2....

...if so, you can use Step 3 in Option Two to remove it.

fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update.

I had this problem with a Dell XPS Laptop not being offered an upgrade to 22H2 for 2 months. I don't know if the problem was a Bios lock on the Dell to keep the OS from upgrading or because I had upgraded the machine from Windows Home to Pro. The solution I have requires Macrium Reflect Workstation (I use version 8) and required my using a second Windows Pro machine. If you have Macrium Reflect let me know and I will upload the steps I took to get the 22H2 upgrade on my XPS.

This solution will preserve all your personal files and applications. It is not a clean install, but an upgrade.

I moved from 21H2 to 22H2 - but I did it via a clean install. I did the same to move to the current Canary Build - which is not technically supported on the Pentium-G - despite the drivers working just fine. ( The same driver that was tested in the 22H2 is the core of the Canary driver that I am running now - which comes via the Intel Graphics Engine in the Microsoft Store.) I will definitely need the Graphics Engine when I deploy
deploy my vPro-based i7 - because any vPro-based CPU such as my i7 - which is the middle - despite its age. (How old is it? 12th generation i7-based vPro-driven i7 - lots of them out there via rebuilders - especially refitted with SSDS like mine was. My rebuilt i7 also has two half-height empty bays - I still have the 4 TB half-height that was my main drive which is unlikely to be used despite the empty bays and unused connector. (If I do use it, it will be as auxilliary storage - augmenting my cloud storage.

Thanks, Guys... this looks really complicated and above my comfort zone. I checked for the registry entry, and it is not even there. Is there no way I can use the Installation Assistant? Thanks again....

Yes, you can. It will check your computer for compatibility and upgrade you if fully compatible as well as tell you why you're not compatible if you do not meet requirements. First option listed here. Download Windows 11

I suggest you turn off any third party anti-virus.

Thanks... I saw Britec on Youtube doing exactly that with IA. However, what threw me off was the MS language that IA is for Windows 10 to 11 upgrades. I have run PC Health Check and my machine is fully compatible. I only use MS Defender. Thanks to all!

The Installation Assistant is the same as In-Place Upgrade, with one or two steps removed.
Good luck on your upgrade. :-)

By chance did you upgrade your Windows 11 to Pro from Home?
Never could figure out why my XPS laptop was not offered the upgrade. It was either the Pro upgrade or Dell placing a block on the Bios preventing a version upgrade. Nevertheless was able to get by the block. Let me know if you still are having difficulty. Macrium Reflect can do this for you. I'm not a promoter of Macrium just a user.

Updated the PC via Installation Assistant today. Long, laborious process... 2 + hours, very slow after 75%, numerous restarts and black screens, coupled with additional updates after the install. If you are using WP as a telemetry blocker, the new installation will turn off settings you will have to reset. Somewhat nerve racking, but got it done, thanks to the guidance from this forum. Thanks to all!

Glad you got it solved. The method I suggested requires 1 backup then a restore.
Hopefully yours will work well. Be sure to run sfc /scannow to be sure there is no file corruption!
