Had a few problems since updating to Samsung Magician 9 - anyone else? They are widely reported. The interface is too small and faint to read for a start off, and mine kept trying to restart, initialising and hanging. It seems buggy. Uninstalled it. Thankfully I found I still had the download for 8.3 in my downloads folder so reinstalled that - it doesn't seem to be available to download from Samsung.

The way you should use SM...

Install it, check for firmware upgrades. If there is one, do the upgrade.
Then uninstall SM.

Wait approx. a year and repeat.

I have a Samsung SSD. I played around with SM.
Seems to me like it slowed down my boots, and was always running in the background as well.

That's why I just use it once a year to check for firmware updates, then uninstall it afterwards.

My update to SM9 went smoothly. To Ghot's point though, it does seem to be of little use other than to update firmware (and my drives are old enough there won't be any firmware updates) so I set the program to not load during Windows startup rather than uninstall it. That way I can re-activate it if I feel the need to without reinstalling.

My upgrade went ok until today when it kept popping up saying it needed to restart and then a window opening saying "optimising" that got stuck like that indefinitely. But apart from that it's now a dark theme, incredibly tiny writing and no contrast, an unreadable. Maybe it's better on a bigger screen.

As I understand it, it does quite a lot more than firmware updates, although I probably don't need most of the functions myself or use them:

Overprovisioning
Performance optimisation modes
Shows information and serial number for the drive and if it's in AHCI mode
Performance benchmark
Diagnostic scan
Drive status indicators - temperature, health and wear

The last three, maybe other software could do but ...........

I do find it quite useful to check the temperature occasionally. And various options for data transfer etc.

Just updated my Firmware with the new version of Samsung Magician 9 all went well with my two computers just have to do my other four computers.
I'm not having any issues with the new version yet x fingers
