Scanning Photos to save digitally

The key thing for me was to recognize that, say, ten years from now, the people who might look at these photos may have no idea who the people are, what the photo is about, etc. I did this project several years ago and went to the trouble to add metadata to the digital photos telling who, where, when what the photo is about. Also, I use a naming system for the photos that begin with the year & month, and be as descriptive in the title as you have room. I won't be here forever....

Yeah its been since May 9th 2000 since father passed, and while i made a Nero Photo Video Slideshow DVD back then, i probably should've done the project back then in the first place lol.

But ended up lazy and didn't think about this mega project til after seeing the local news and was like should preserve all those old pictures as soon as i can here.

So gonna see if i can afford possibly the better software for the scanning in the pictures, then start to work on the project as soon as i can here.

**Still Do Own Nero Burning Rom Platinum 2024 Suite but not sure if that includes anything good for dealing with Photos, but i can check it out more if need be, or possibly afford upgraded Suite of that program**

I can't make out why the software that came with your scanner is not good enough for you.

Most modern mid priced printer scanners work at 1200 dpi which is good enough for general use.

Digitising old photos does not really need great resolution as all they do is map the granularity of conventional photographic paper.

Although I am not an AI fan where it replaces human thinking, it is good at tidying up old photos e.g. my friend only had one blurred photo of her departed husband in his Gordan Highander Kilt plus Dress Uniform.

With Samsung's latest photo assist features, I was able to remove a lot of background stuff (including persons), zoom in and sharpen up the picture, particularly facial features.

She was delighted when I presented her with the new picture in a photo frame, impressed how close her husband looked to how she remembered.

Of course, touching up pictures takes a bit of practice and I found doing small steps, saving after each step worked best. Initially, I tried to do too much in one go, and had to backtrack doing a lot of rework.

So, digitising photos is easy enough but you can get a lot of fun (and frustration lol) touching up photos.
