Microsoft Windows 11 Home x64, version 24H2 build 22631.3810
Bought this laptop a couple weeks ago, and I've noticed that after I've been away from it for longer than a few minutes with the lid closed, when I open the lid the screen brightness is reduced to around 40%. I always set it to 80%. Why would the screen darken like that?

My power settings are set so that nothing happens when I close the lid, so I'm not sure what *is* happening.

First, make sure adaptive brightness is disabled. Content adaptive brightness control in Windows

Others have found this to work. In device manager -expand batteries-see if you have 'Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method battery' Right click it and select disable device. For those that have this option, this seems to stop the dimming. However, know that it also removes the battery level indicator in the "status bar" on the bottom right, so you cannot see the battery level anymore.

Waited until overnight to see if your suggestions worked, and they did not. :(

Win11 is the first MS OS that has me stumped in a few areas.

I rarely use the battery, so I doubt those settings would be the cause. I'll check them anyway, in case somehow they're interfering.

What happens when you've been away from it for longer than a few minutes with the lid open?

Nothing, except for the screensaver. But when it turns off after moving the mouse, it's fine.

I think you'll need to temporarily inhibit the screensaver to see if the effect happens or not then.

If it does dim with the lid open then I suggest you take a look at
my ditty on stopping dim display [post #3] - TenForums
The TenForumsTutorial I mention has not been copied across to ElevenForum yet.

All the best,

Okay, for some reason, since I turned that off, the issue hasn't returned. Yet, I almost never run on battery power, and most definitely never overnight. heh...
