screen goes black for a second!

So in the past few days the screen goes blank for a second or so. Happens when using a browser and also other software. just started. have not made any changes but I think an upgrade was installed in the past few days. I can say since I started windows 11 when a window opens sometimes there is a black box in the shape of the window for less than one second SOMETIMES.

suggestions?

added: I leave it on sleep overnight, hardly ever shutdown and reboot

Try running a Clean Boot. If this works, you can leave it this way. Or you can add one or a few Services or Start up items until; the behavior returns, than you will know the culprit.

Make sure that your video cable is seated properly. I had the same behavior several years ago and the video cable was loose.

this update just installed 2 days ago - before the problem began - 2025-06 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 24H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5060842

when black the sound is still going and when the screen comes back whatever Im working on is still fine

If you mean the Microsoft Edge window goes black for a couple or more seconds, I have seen it too. Tabs that are not used for some time go to sleep to save RAM. When I click to open one of them again, the CPU looks at the RAM, doesn't find the data and then looks at the hard disk (page file). Until it can copy the data from the disk to the RAM to display the tab contents, the browser window stays black for a couple of seconds. Nothing to worry about. I don't know, but this should also be the case in other browsers.

You can always do a System Restore to a time before this Update was installed Or you can Uninstall the update

did reboot instead of using sleep (sleep has always been a problem with win 11) and have not seen the black screen recently, he says, fingers crossed

Could you check the updates section to see if a display driver update was also installed? The screen will flash or go momentarily blank when a display driver update is installed.

when mine did it was because of having anew 5070 ti and bad drivers.... do have the Chrome browser. you can see if it does the same thing with that one.
