My laptop booted to a black screen with the mouse, and stayed like that for over 5 minutes. I decided to try Ctrl + Shift + Windows + B, and it made the lock screen appear (I think, may have just been a coincidence), but when I move past the lock screen, the screen turns black again. I can't open Task Manager or anything, and Ctrl + Alt + Delete does nothing. As soon as I press a key the lock screen leaves and it goes black. I tried making it go black, and doing Ctrl + Shift + Windows + B again, but it's not working. I also tried just typing my password anyway, but it didn't go through.

Thanks!

Thank you, but I can't open task manager or anything when the screen goes black. I've avoided doing a force shutdown because I'm worried it might be in the middle of something.

1) Please see option nine in this link:

2) When possible run the V2 log collector > post a share link

3) Plan to run the latest version of the HP UEFI hardware diagnostics overnight while sleeping:

HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI – v10.8.5.0

4) Power on the laptop and repetitively click F2 > overnight run the HP UEFI hardware diagnostics: system > extensive > loop until error > in the AM if there have been at least 2 loops > click esc > run any component tests as needed > take pictures with a camera or smartphone camera > post images or share links displaying the tests performed with results

So doing a force shutdown should be fine?

One force shutdown was all that was needed! I logged in and everything is fine now (I hope). Thank you all!

If you post a V2 share link it may have information about the cause.
