Screen jumping

I am having a problem which is that when I am scrolling down a web page or even on Windows Explorer using my cordless mouse the screen jumps or scrolls on it own further down a page. I have tried updating the graphics card driver but that made no difference. I uninstalled the mouse driver, then restarted PC letting Windows automatically pick up the mouse and install it's own driver, but also made no difference. I can't think what else could be causing this.

The mouse is a generic Chinese job so has no brand name etc. therefore I cannot replace the driver. Can anybody point me to a link where I can download a generic cordless mouse driver as mine didn't come with any dedicated driver. A different driver might be the answer.

It sounds like hardware to me. Your mouse may be adding extra scrolling commands at the end of your scroll action with the scroll wheel. Have you tried a different mouse?

Common causes are:
1. Flat battery.
2. Polished Mouse mat/surface.

Windows itself has generic mouse drivers. Windows updates should take care of common chipset drivers for Bluetooth and Wireless dongles.

This definitely sounds like a hardware issue. My recommendation is that you grab yourself a cheap Logitech Wireless mouse. They run on battery for 1-3 years straight without replacement and are very reliable. Cost you about $10-25 depending on model. So you should not become bankrupt because of the investment. If you want something fancier then use known brands...again, Logitech is a very good option.

Check Mouse Settings:

Adjust the "Scroll inactive windows when I hover over them" setting to off.
Review the scrolling speed and lines per scroll settings.

If possible, try using the mouse on another computer to see if the issue is hardware related.

Thanx to one and all for advice. I have now changed the "Scroll inactive windows when I hover over them" to OFF and lowered the scrolling speed and it is certainly an improvement, hardly any jumping.
