Setting default input method

I have installed Japanese language support on my system as well as UK English (because I write software that need translation). For UK English I had set the keyboard to the the UK Extended keyboard.

Now that Japanese has been installed and even though my current language is set to UK English, the IME is set to the Japanese IME with the 102/106 key keyboard.

This means that I have to remember to set the input method to the UK Extended Keyboard every time I logon. Otherwise when I try to type e.g. a double quote (Shift-2) I get an @ character instead of a ".

How can I persuade the system to use the UK Extended keyboard by default instead of the Japanese IME.

At Settings, Time & Language, Language & Region, Language you can move langauge packs up and down after clicking on the "..." to the right of each for a menu. I think you may need to move English above Japanese.

(There's also an override at Settings, Time & Language, Typing, Advanced keyboard settings, Override for default input method which says, "If you want to use an input method that's different from the first one in your language list, choose it here".)
