Solved Shopping Laptops w/win11, what's popular?

@Bree hit the nail on the head. While all "change" is not always for the better, it IS as sure as death and taxes, especially in the computing world. I have found the most resistance to it in other folks in my age group (senior ++) my answer to them is "Will it be easier to learn and accept now or 3 years on down the road when Windows 10 is no longer supported and you are 3 years older?"

I'm not going to worry about tomorrow, but I can understand someone that does  Also, I need both my computers to be on the same system, I didn't think about that. It's too easy to get confused going back and forth between OS's

I'm guessing from your username that you and I are of the same 'vintage'. I have Win7, Win10 and Win11 PCs that I use regularly. I have no trouble swapping between them and am used to it by now. I see more similarities between them than differences, particularly with Windows 10/11.

I'm in my 60s, just barely, lol  I sent you another message and am going to try the 11 today. Right now I see it has the same long, drawn out bloatware removal and don't know of another way, yet. Maybe a 3rd party app would do it better. Right now I just found a tute and following each of it's options, I mean just trying them out removing one bloaty app

I ordered mine off Amazon, it took 5 days or more to get here. I noticed I can use my Amazon Account to buy from UK, wonder if that works in reverse. I do pay for free-shipping through my prime payment each month. I order a lot though so it's worth it

I like learning, and I am still teachable, I just wasn't in the right mood for it this a.m. I'm setting it up with everything I like as far as themes, and I've got my Firefox on here. I have never figured out the best way to transfer my bookmarks but I need to do that if anyone can help. When I used sync on my new laptop (11) it didn't sync the bookmarks which was an option :( argg

Go to your Appdata folder on the old PC. You will find your profile folder in ...\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles.

Copy all of its contents, then on the new PC after installing Firefox replace the contents of its profile folder with you copy from the old PC.

Yes, that's what I generally use.
Hmm, that didn't go well, lol  I got the new profile uploaded and replaced the profile on the new Firefox, and it won't open because it says "missing or unaccessable" . I did just copy the 3 folders Bree, maybe that wasn't the way to go. Maybe I need to reinstall the Firefox on the new laptop
The whole error reads "Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible
I also, looking back, see that I don't have that file that's in your "snip" after Profiles>rhyt6odm.default. That may be just your computer though??

For a new install of firefox there will be a couple of folders in the AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles folder, only one of them is your firefox profile. Look at the date/time to see which is in active use.

The folder name will almost certainly be different from that on your old PC. Do not change it, just replace its contents with the files and folders from the old PC's profile.

If you have already deleted the new PC's profile folder and replaced it with one of a different name (as I suspect you may have done) don't worry. Open a command prompt and start Firefox with the command:
"C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -p
Then you'll be able to choose the profile you want to use.

fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update.

Ok Bree, but I tried to do a fresh install of FF before I saw your reply. This doesn't seem an easy way to move one html file to another computer though, not that I don't appreciate you because I really do and will follow the steps after I've now done a reset on the Win 11. The command didn't work so I just reset the laptop. No biggie as I hadn't added any apps even, except for adding Firefox

I always copy the entire folder, then paste into new machine. It will ask you if you want to replace existing folder, I say yes. It's always worked for me.
