Apart from the fact that this thread is just a giant "piddling" contest, it does regrettably show that the UK has seriously slipped beind the US in broadband speeds, when we were intially way ahead.

The reason for this is our whole telecom system is still based on the old British Telecom copper wire network, and although trunk routes have been replaced by fibre, the connections to houses still rely on copper wire, and it would be a massive investment job to replace the local connections.

I bet in even in the US, these high speeds are not seen on highly urbanised areas like New York?
