Intel i9 13900K, nice room heater.

I'm messing around with old laptop -- still runs W11 (install via dism /Apply-Image so bypass all the restrictive stuff without fiddling around)

Only 8GB RAM but still performs fine for testing etc - and if it gets broken or stolen I couldn't care.
Usually run linux on it and with a W11 as a VM it still works OK -- two concurrent VM's strains it a bit though). These older i5 CPU's are 100% capable of running W11 and are far better than some of the junk celerons STILL being installed in newer "mini PC's".



Here's this very same laptop running fine a W11 Canary build W11 Pro VM


but you CAN run a concurrent XP VM on it too -- XP still has so little CPU use it's barely noticeable !!!

Here's a bit of nostalga -- and I do prefer the old Windows XP Luma black theme with the slightly curved title bars -- W11 looks so bland now by comparison. This runs concurrently with W11 pro VM -- no issue even on that old laptop. (Firefox ESR still works for most websites if using a Win XP VM and no problem if you have SAMBA on a NAS of sharing files etc).



You don't need to splash out on mega expensive new hardware (unless your boss is paying you bonuses in tax free accounts in the Cayman Islands). For most people they just chuck hardware away too quickly. -- I'm not anti new stuff - and many need it - but far too many just chuck stuff in the bin that they really don't need too.

I've probably got more out of this old laptop than the designers ever thought possible (and I do have a load of new stuff too BTW).

ASUS TUF Gaming A15 (2022)
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 6800H
GPU1: AMD Radeon 680M (512MB RAM)
GPU2: Nvidia RTX 3060 (6GB RAM)

AMD laptops usually have special AMD CPUs referred to as APUs. APUs are CPUs with built-in integrated graphics. This is shown as GPU1. These laptops may also have a second optional GPU referred to as GPU2. GPU2 can either be from AMD or Nvidia.

how did you overclock your hardware? Is it different for Intel and AMD?

It sure does get hot. With just the stock intel fan, I wasn't happy with it getting to 100C before throttling cut in. After much trial and error, I discovered this BIOS trick. If I run the CPUZ bench, I can run it for 15 mins and it maxes out at 80C.
