I have installed a fresh win 11.
It uses 64 GB of my drive if I just look in my computer and take properties of folders.

Is there any way to minimize those 64 GB or is all file nessasary to run win11?

I also disable Hibernation, which remove the large hiber.sys file.
And if you see a windows.old folder in C:\... Disk Cleanup can remove that.

    Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 15 years?
If you have a really limited Windows partition you can also use the Compact OS parameters in command line to compress the Windows files. Even better, you can compress all the files in Windows partition. This should have a small performance penalty but you gain some GB.

Here, Windows 11 21h2, which I removed all apps from, and Defender and Edge use less than 11GB.

That sounds a little excessive, I would have expected about half that for a clean install. Was Windows already installed before you did the fresh install? If so, is there a Windows.old folder that may account for the excess?

This is a recent clean install of mine, with little or no attempt to clean it up after installing.....

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to lid hinges starting to break up this laptop has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

    Info for 2021-2026:
    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    My SYSTEM FIVE is a Dell Latitude 3190 2-in-1, Pentium Silver N5030, 8GB RAM, 1TB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro, plus Insider Beta, Experimental 263xx and 29xxx builds (and a few others) as a native boot .vhdx.

    My SYSTEM SIX is a Dell Latitude 5550, Core Ultra 7 165H, 64GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD, supported device, Windows 11 Pro, Hyper-V host machine. Updated to 25H2 on 30th September 2025.

    My SYSTEM SEVEN is a Lenovo Thinkpad T580, 1920x1080 touchscreen, Intel Core i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD + 2nd 512GB NVMe SSD, a supported device for Windows 11. This is my current general purpose 'main machine'. The installed Windows 11 Home from my System One has been migrated to this machine. As its new home has an existing digital licence for Pro I've been able to upgrade the migrated OS from Home to Pro.

    My SYSTEM EIGHT is a 2-in-1 convertible Lenovo Yoga 11e (5th gen) type 20LN, Celeron N4120, 8GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, a supported device for Windows 11. Currently running Windows 11 Pro, plus Insider Beta, Experimental 263xx and 29xxx builds as native boot vhdx.
56 GB it was... not 64 as I wrote..
it's a downloaded win11 from Microsoft and installed with rufus USB....
I will try this edge and other stuff uninstall.. dont need it.

Just uninstalling Edge (using OOBE Region swap method) and uninstalling Copilot saved me almost 10Gb of hard disk space. I didn’t/don’t need that junk anyway.

Most folks recommend that you do not uninstall Edge as it is a core component of windows. Force-removal can break built-in apps, widgets, and search features that rely on its engine, and future Windows updates often reinstall it anyway. But you do you.

I’ve uninstalled Edge on both my desktop and laptop using the EU Region change method and it hasn’t broken anything at all. Edge also doesn’t get reinstalled during updates if you use the EU DMA method because MS aren’t allowed to break anything. I’m genuinely baffled why anyone wouldn’t want to give themselves the choice of uninstalling Edge if the option is clearly available. You don’t have to even live in the EU to change your device region if you use OOBE method and you certainly don’t need to use any third party programs/tools.

Bear in mind that there is a fairly recent feature in Windows where it grabs some temporary space. I cannot recall off the top of my head for what purpose it does this but I seem to recall that it will give up some or all of that space if you start running short of space. Maybe someone else recalls the details.

Bottom line is that I would not be overly concerned with this.

If I find any additional details, I'll post back.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to lid hinges starting to break up this laptop has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

    Info for 2021-2026:
    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

Found some info. I am thinking of "reserved storage". This is a feature where Windows sets aside roughly 6 to 8GB of space but it can become larger depending upon your configuration to help guarantee successful Windows updates.

You can disable that to gain back that space if you wish.

DISM /Online /Set-ReservedStorageState /State:Disabled

Reboot after the above command.

I am jealous. Too bad my HP Stream 7 tablet is locked to boot in UEFI 32-bit mode only. It would be nice to experiment with Windows 11.

No, the Users folder is still on on C: as it is by default.
That was a clean install with little use yet, a laptop that I wiped and clean installed in preparation for selling it.
There's nothing much in the Users folder so far.

Some movies, large drivers downloads later and the total is more than 80GB... Let alone downloading and installing modern games. Suddenly my 1TB SSD feels like 120GB.

If UEFI doesn't work, you can install in MBR mode without any problem; the ISO in my signature works fine.

You are missing the point. It was noted that the tablet is locked to 32-bit mode. Windows 11 is a 64-bit only OS. UEFI / MBR is irrelavant.
