" EDIT;;; here's the reg hack I was referring to "...........sorry, my friend , but the problem is the Windows Media Player ..........the Windows Photo Viewer works awsome in 11 , less complicated and it opens almost every extension !
Windows Media Player has a very restrict number of extensions it will open , I have even a mediapack installed for it
Did you try a repair install??

Oh and start a new thread.. your issue is lost in this one.

Windows 11 Pro 21H2 64-bit (build 22000.282)
I have read that AMD Ryzen systems are slow on Windows 11 because of a feature that doesn't work properly. Installing latest Windows updates and AMD drivers fixes that and they work at full speed. Even if you experience no issues, it doesn't harm to do all the updates and install latest drivers. I would do it.

I'm not sure what you mean by "pictograms" vs "miniatures", but right click in the window (not on a file) and change the listing under "view".
Yes, click on View and choose Tiles or one of the icon sizes

I don't have a solution, I just wanted to let you know that opening .jpg files with media player works on my desktop. My only guess is a corrupted file that the repair install should have fixed or there is a setting that needs to be changed.

" a corrupted file that the repair install should have fixed "..............tried sfc /scannow also , no luck !
WMP shows the jpg files in Win10 perfectly though.
Made a repair-install yesterday ( solved the miniatures in my photo-albums) , I have no intention to start this all over again . Will wait /search for a solution , maybe could remove WMP from my Win11-PC.............

Go to traditional Control Panel, select to see large icons instead of groups. Go to Explorer settings, uncheck the box to show icons no thumbnails. Now you should see thumbnails when you select medium icons or larger view.

" I did a little more research and found that I can't open .jpg files with Media player. Media Player only plays audio and video files. I can open .jpg files with Windows Media player. "............WOW , big news , so Im not the only one ...............seems this is " standard " behaviour of WMP in Win11 .
btw , you can not open jpg with WMP in Win11 ?
I can only in Win10 , in Win11 my WMP opens audio and video only...........
You post has me confused. What I found out is that Media Player and Windows Media Player are two different programs. Media Player only works with audio and video files. I can open .jpg files in Windows Media Player.

Do you have combase.dll in System32?

Re-register it with regsvr32 combase.dll in a Command Prompt Admin.

Why open pictures with Windows Media Player? I prefer Windows Photo Viewer (the old from Windows 7, not the new Photos app). If you want to restore Windows Photo Viewer, there is a Registry patch that works in all versions of Windows 10 and in Windows 11.
