Should be fixable, WMP is still quite capable of showing .jpg pictures in W11. Though it would hardly be my first choice as a viewer...

Perhaps he just need to add the source folder to WMP's library?

fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update.

WMP might be able to open JPEG pictures but it doesn't make sense to use it as a viewer, so it is not shown in the list. You have to locate the appropriate entry in Registry and modify it to use WMP instead.

" I'm not sure what you mean by "pictograms" vs "miniatures", but right click in the window (not on a file) and change the listing under "view".
.........I want to see photos NOT PICTOGRAMS , in my photo-folders !!!! WHY is this so hard to get in Win11..........??

No issues here (Windows 11 Pro 21H2 RTM (Build 22000.376)...

Screenshot-2022-01-06-133630.jpg

Windows Explorer shows all my images and photos, whether they be jpeg, tiff, or Nikon RAW files (NEF). Same with my other two PC's running the Dev channel of Windows 11 - no issues.

Maybe another application is default for pictures and this affected the icons you see. Not all applications support thumbnails, some show only icons. Make Photos the default application to restore thumbnails.

PS: I noticed that in Windows 11 you cannot make an application default for all the types of files it can handle. You must change it for every file type one-by-one. This is not convenient for applications such as VLC that can handle too many types. Does anyone know how to change that? Any Registry patch to restore this feature from Windows 7/8/10 ? Thanks.
