Spam emails

I have the older version of Outlook which I use an email address of @hotmail.com and I know there is now a version called Outlook.com. Now my problem is that up to about a eek ago I was getting a heap of junk emails for example dating sites, gambling sites etc which I automatically deleted from the junk mail folder. However these wretched junk mail sites are now appearing in my "normal" Inbox and I don't know how to get these junk mail sites to be downloaded again into the junk mail folder or better still how to block them. I have tried using the settings in the mail application and then right clicking on the site and putting what I thought was a block that site and thought that doing so would stop the junk mail stuff from that site being downloaded into any folder. But doing this seems to have no effect on those sites coming through.
Any advice really appreciated.

Could you just click "mark as junk"? Or "phishing". I found blocking didn't work either.

I don't use Outlook, but does it have an option to 'Mark as Spam' like my Yahoo mail does? If so, marking each one as spam could train the spam filter to recognise them better.

Microsoft has made it extremely difficult to communicate with each other about email clients, mainly due to the multiple versions of “Outlook”
Are you referring to an old outlook from an Office suite, like Office 2010/13/19? Or are you referring to Windows Mail that comes/came installed with Windows?

I use Hotmail ..com as well and when I do get junk in the inbox, I simply categorize
it as junk and sometimes phishing and don't see it again. This rarely happens and I
use it everyday . Have you verified that your hotmail account isn't part of a data breach?

I've had Hotmail since back in the late '90s then got Outlook.com when they were going to merge but didn't then it went to Windows Live Essentials and then to Mail. It's always been confusing with the installed E-Mail Client of Outlook part of Office.

I have two Yahoo email accounts and two Gmail accounts. I seldom use the Gmail accounts, but check them every day. Maybe they get activity once a month, and that is usually some Google update or a test email from me. My main email account on Yahoo, gets some junk about one a month, but the spam filter always keeps it out of my inbox.

The other Yahoo account was my wife's (RIP Nov. 3, 2021) and use to get about 20-30 spam messages a day. But the spam was from an old ".msn" account that was, or so we thought, closed over 15 years ago. It seems my wife added a redirect into the account and now I can't get into it to remove it and try to shut down the account again. I tried getting in but MSN didn't think I had enough credentials.

But that account has calmed down and I only get 2-3 spam messages a week, and they always go to the spam folder stripped of any images or attachments. The spam is almost always, allegedly, from some Gmail account and sent to multiple ".msn" accounts. It seem that the trick is to always recognize spam and immediately mark it as spam. Once it's in the spam folder, you can view it to see what was inside. If you decide it was not spam, you can always have it restored. My wife was very poor at recognizing spam and always opened it before asking me about it. Usually the wording of the spam is very poor English and easy to spot. I also block the senders, but that isn't completely effective. I have over 500 addresses blocked in my wife's account, and still see some of them pop up again. But 2 or 3 a week doesn't bother me.

One of these days I may just shut down the wife's account. I only keep it open in case an old friend tries to contact her, so I can inform them of her passing.
