Strange Notification

Windows 11 Home Edition Version 22H2 (OS Build 22621.3296)
Today my laptop suddenly went into hibernation after being on for 2 minutes, and when I woke it up it said that the battery was very low and that I should plug it in, but the battery was 95%, and after plugging it in again it is now 100%.
It seemed to be plugged in properly, and, as I said, the battery level was 95% anyway, so why did I get that message? Can that message appear if the laptop is not plugged in properly? I think it was plugged in properly, but I am not 100% sure.

EventViewer says "PowerEvent handled successfully by the service" (DellTechHub).
The Windows Reliability Monitor does not show any problems for today.

I've had strange notifications now and then when not using a proper power supply with a Notebook, particularly one without the center pin in the plug.

Should be an Event ID code (number) in the right column. May want to google code for more info and well as "power event handled successfully by service".

Would not be that concerned unless it reoccurs.

Thank you. I cannot find it any more right now but I will pay attention next time. However. it has not happened again, and the battery has been fully charged all day.

I got this on my HP laptop. Turned out the battery had failed. The laptop was (is) less than three years old, so it was a bit of a surprise.

When something like this happens, I suggest
- running a Battery report to check the ratio of Last full charge to Design capacity in order to decide if the battery is worn out
- checking the Low, Reserve & Critical batter levels in Power Options, Advanced, Battery to see if the system is actually doing what you told it to do instead of what you wanted it to do. Note that the % figures are relative to Design capacity so you'll have to do some calculations to see how they relate to the degree of wear identified by the Battery report.

Berton is correct. The centre pin on a Dell power supply is a data wire that identifies the power capability of the power supply. Strange things can happen if it's not making good contact....

Poor battery health is the most likely cause. If so, a Battery Report can confirm that.

If you need to replace the battery, it can be done. Service manuals for the Dell in your 'My Computer' specs can be found here:

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.
