Very sorry, didn't check that, because with the display turned off [by Power options] the sound turnes off here as well. So I could not use it. Didn't think of measuring the other variants as well, sorry. So I just checked the differnece between the notebook running the programs I usually use (no different conditions, more, less program / performance,idle, etc.) and the external monitor (instead of the notebook dislplay).

Many thanks, I then had returned the notebook unfortunately. But I tried the same (on the Lenovo Website) for the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 17ABA7 Laptop - Type 82RQ (Lenovo IdeaPad 3 82RQ003EGE) with success.

abuactuon is suggesting using commands that will emulate your manually setting the Lid close action to Sleep when using mains power & when using it on battery.

If you've already returned it then I appreciate you won't be doing any further tests but what I meant in my last post was testing out its behaviour with its own display [rather than your external display].
I've never seen a power analysis of different display states. I don't have a power meter.

On all my Notebooks the Fn + another F key doesn't actually turn off the video adapter but toggles between the LCD panel, the VGA/HDMI port for a monitor/projector or both at the same time. Don't see how there could be much power savings. With no monitor attached it would appear to be an on/off switch. I once had a couple house calls to a client who had a housekeeper that would get her Notebook in that condition and a little training solved the issue.

I was asking about the comparison between the laptop's power consumption with its own display on & off not with it merely switched to another display.

Doesn't your TV have an option to turn off just the picture (so the TV stays on, only the picture doesn't)? On my Sony Bravia XR-55X90J the [Picture Off] feature is buried somewhere deep in the TV's menu structure, but the TV allows that feature to be added to Quick Settings, which is a menu bar that I can access quickly by pressing the cogwheel button that's on the remote. To turn the picture back on instantly, all I have to do is just press the BACK button on the remote.

Ah, very sorry for my poor explanation as I just now realize: by "Switching to the external monitor" (while testing the power consumption), I meant, I switched to the external monitor, but there is not a monitor / TV what would be turned on or would be running. the external monitor is the amplifier, connected with HDMI cable. The amp is connect with HDMI cable with the TV (not running). The amp keeps staying on when switching to it, that is the only way I found to turn the notebook display off and keeping the music sounding.
But yes, the TV, I assume, has an option to turn off only the picture. Yes, to run the TV (with pcture) would cause pretty more power consumption than the notebook display.

Sorry again for the ridiculous explanation.

Decreasing the screen brightness to the lowest possible setting should make a lot more difference, as the LED backlight that the IPS panel in the laptop's built-in screen uses consumes the most power, generally, and as far as the screen is concerned. (With an OLED screen, there is no LED backlight so then it would've been a whole other story.)

If I change the "When I close the lid:" setting to Do nothing, then closing the lid doesn't turn the screen off. Whereas if I change it to Sleep, then the laptop goes to sleep so it stops playing music when I close the lid.

So one had to press Fn+F(x) for some secounds to get thw lowest brightness and Fn+F(x2) to inncrease it again?

I don't face your problem because the only time I play audio tracks is when my laptop is not connected to anything else.
I change power plans to one in which the display goes off after one minute then, later on, the computer sleeps a minute after WMP has finished the playlist.

It is perfectly possible that an individual computer's Bios can prevent any changes being made to the lid close action.

I believe that Edwin's experience [below] is normal. I think many or possibly all laptops turn off power to the display when the lid is closed.
The possible lid close actions that can be set do not even refer to keeping the display powered up:

Yes, I guess the same here. And I assume perhaps downloads will stop and other activities, for example synchronizing.

Correct. I've never actually seen the physical switch, myself, I was just told it's in there!

Probably a setting for it in the BIOS, I bet!

Yes, mine behaves the same, but if I change the setting under Multiple displays to Extend these displays, then when I close the lid, the laptop's built-in screen turns off whereas the TV continues to receive the same signal like almost nothing happened. Just a very brief and subtle zoom out/in effect occurs on the TV whilst the Multiple displays section disappears from the Windows Settings app, and, at the same time also, the Windows Settings app window jumps to a slightly different position. Whereas, if I change the setting under Multiple displays to Show only on 2, then when I close the lid after that, that's when the TV screen turns black for ~2 seconds with only a white mouse arrow on it. So, then, it takes ~2 seconds for Windows 11 to recover itself from switch syndrome. Lucky for me, I play my music through an outboard USB DAC so, I am quite immune to this sort of balderdash from Microsoft.
