Taskbar

I have a problem with the taskbar, it just won't load all the way. after converting to windows 11. the manufacturer of my laptop is lenovo. if you know how to do it, I will be grateful

Do you have access to the desktop? Try to right-click on the desktop and select Display Settings. From there click on Windows Update from the list on the left and search for updates. Install them all and it might repair File Explorer and fully load the taskbar.

Do you have any 3rd party tweaking programs installed?
Sometimes, tweaks that worked in Windows 10, will break things in Windows 11.


3rd party programs like... Open Shell, Winaero Tweaker, Explorer Patcher, StartAllBack... etc?


Or... do you have another screen hooked up to your laptop?
Sometimes Win 11 gets confused as to where to put things with two screens.

Try holding down CTRL + ALT + DEL and select Task Manager.

Then in Task Manager, scroll all the way to the bottom of the list and locate the Windows Explorer icon. You may have several, so you may need to repeat the process several times, but right click on the Windows Explorer icon and select Restart.

That should cause the desktop display to go blank and then restart.

If the above fails, right click on the desktop and select Display Settings, then go to Personalization > Taskbar and scroll down and expand Taskbar Behaviors.

Then make sure Show my taskbar on all displays is check marked. You may try un-checking it as well.

Also, you may need to play with the Taskbar alignment settings, Left or Center.

If that should fail also, then hold down CTRL + ALT + DEL and select Task Manager. At the top of the Task Manager window select Run new task and type in: CMD hit enter to open the CMD window and then type in sfc /scannow and hit enter.

Wait until that completes. You can then restart Windows.

Fingers crossed, that will provoke some life back into it ... lol

Also, and important - check to see if you have Lenovo apps loading (like the battery monitor in the system tray) and make sure on Lenovo's site it says any Lenovo apps you still have installed from prior to the upgrade are compatible with Windows 11.

Fastest way to check would be to disable the Lenovo apps one by one to see - I'm almost betting it is the battery monitor, or something similar - it's been a PITA every time Windows gets upgrade when I used to use Lenovo laptops.

Checking for updates for the apps may help, but it'll be better to uninstall the exiting app(s) and then install the latest version(s) of Lenovo app(s).

Check the above. Win10 but same may be helpful. As galt mentions, seems to be prevalent with Lenovo laptops. Other info on google.

May try a System Restore or Repair if all else fails.

Automatic updates don't always work as expected so I don't use Dell's or HP's or whatever utilities. I prefer to manually download any new drivers.

Not seeing anything unusual with the taskbar on my 10-year old Dell Latitude. It started with Win8 Pro then 8.1 then 10 and 2 weeks ago did the Upgrade to Win11 using the single-file replacement process. It works fine but the Wireless/Wi-Fi doesn't support 5G so am using an add-in USB dongle to get that. The reason for trying Win11 on such old equipment is the need for an ODD drive in a portable computer for a project coming up and my other Pro and Home Notebooks don't have that and now I don't need to buy another just now.
