I own a Dell 530 Inspiron with a genuine Windows 7 32 bit DVD from Dell with sticker that I upgraded to Win 10 with without a hitch. I never thought that I'd need it and I let my children use it when they were younger. Then one day I was having the time of my life with flashing an HBA card in IT mode. Both my friend and myself could not figure out what was wrong so we decided to try the card out on the DELL. We popped in the card, inserted the USB stick, booted it up and flashed the DOS to the card. The card worked after that like it came out of the factory. Turned out we needed an older PC with a REAL BIOS capable of executing 32 bit instruction.
People wonder why I hang onto old hardware and this is just one example of how old hardware has bailed out my new hardware, saving it from the mountain of e-waste that precious few care to consider. I think I know which group you're talking about there, Wizmeister. I've mentioned them a few times in this forum already and if I broke the rules doing so I apologize. Get Into PC and see what they have to say. I do know that they're great for resurrecting old PCs and laptops and helping students who can't afford software they need to further themselves in college or whatever. One of my daughters uses a Gen 2 OS without issue and Kaspersky gave it a clean bill of health so I'm thinking it's safe. Like you, I won't post the link here because I don't want to violate any rules but I think people should be free to openly discuss such things in an adult forum without fear of censorship.
As for Win 10 Pro on those old laptops, never say "last" unless you want them to last. There's still Linux.
