OS
windows 11 Pro
I am on Windows 11 Home .

Currently I have three Windows 11 OS installed as follows :

Disk 1 GPT SATA drive 951 GB : Windows 11 Home on partition E:\

Disk 2 : GPT SSD drive : Windows 11 on partition C:\ and a 2nd Windows 11 on Partition H:\

The boot Partition is C:\ on Disk 2.

I’d like to be able to boot from the other 2 OS, because they contain data I want to retrieve, but I am unable to access them from the multi boot start up menu. I can only boot from C:\ on Disk 2.

I get a message that the other OS 's need to be repaired I can't understand why. Each disk has a system partition, which should allow to boot the OS .

How can I go about it?

Thanks

Ittiandro

you may need to use 'recovery' in settings then 'boot from another device'
which should show you the the boot manager for each install that is on the system.

or .. you could use an alternative boot manager which would enable you to choose which install on the system you wish to boot to.

this is just a sample.

best of luck, Steve ..

Try EasyBCD. With it you can see what the current boot menu is. If the other Windows boots are not on the menu you can add them to it

Note EasyBCD is a free download for non-commercial use.

For example, I have the following boot menu:
Entry 1 has Windows 10 Pro booting from C:
Entry 2 has Windows 7 Home booting from E:

EasyBCD 2.4.webp

So you can see all three Windows installations on the boot menu but can only boot to one? And the other two give you errors?
Is that a correct summary of your issue?

I didn't have much success with EasyBcd an Dism.
I am posting screen shots of Computer Management and the Minitool Partition Wizard. THey shows Partition C;\ as the boot partition . This is correct, but I want to boot from E;\ on Disk 0 ( SATA HDD) and/or H;\ Disk 1 .SSD drive). Diskpart gives a message that I cannot make the select disks/partitions active because they are not fixed MBR disks. How do go about it? Thanks Ittiandro

Active marker is not used for booting windows from gpt disks. It is for bios booting from mbr disks.

Then, how do I make the disk active ( bootable) with diskpart, if feasible at all? I believe It is possible to convert a disk from GPT to MBR, but all the partitions are wiped out. This would defeat my purpose, because I need the other OS partitions to retrieve data . How do I go about this? THanks

OK, let’s say that I go ahead and convert the GPT disk to MBR and delete all volumes/partitions. accordingly Can I then reinstall on the newly converted MBR disk a previously backed-up OS drive image ( complete with all the data) instead of installing a fresh Windows 11? The BUP OS would be a Macrium or Aomei drive image . I want to make sure that won't lose the other OS in the process.
Thanks
