If anybody here is interested, Ubuntu 24 .04 (Noble) has finally solved the "white screen" problem that plagued iso and it was worth the wait (for me at least). I have installed it on one of my four physical drives using the zfs filesystem. I am not debating whether to break my RAID 0, which I have had for many years and where I store the VM and use the two free-up drives as part of my ZFS pool. Supposedly, performance is according to arstechnica. A whole new world for me.

Thanks for the heads up on ZFS. Looks like it's mature enough now -- I've been using XFS on linux for many years but looks like ZFS is the way to go/

BTW Arch Linux also is on latest kernels -- I just don't like UBUNTU - but that's everybody's individual choice. I like also the software RAID 0 on Arch Linux (using MDADM) as you can use devices with mixed storage sizes unlike a load of other systems where you can only "aggregate" the storage with the smallest size HDD's etc - so you can waste a load of space.

Fortunately there's a number of 'flavors' of Ubuntu and different desktops for them, all based on Debian. I like Linux Mint Cinnamon.

I suggest you try Garuda Linux. It has a zen kernel and is unbelievably FAST.

I saw in a movie that Kali linux is the coolest.

Mint Cinnamon or Ubuntu. I'm a Windows gal through and through, but I gotta say I could use either distro full time & adapt easily.
