TONS of DeviceSetupManager Warnings and Errors after latest Cumulative Update (KB5032288)

After the latest KB5032288 Cumulative Update my Win11 has been showing TONS of these events upon booting. Has anyone seen these? What kind of issue could this be related to? Nothing's changed on my system in terms of settings etc. I also installed the latest 23.10.0 Intel Wifi drivers for my AX200, not sure if it could be related at all.

Hello @Sptz and welcome to ElevenForum.

They don't mean anything really. The new, improved Windows Update (any) causes them.
We all get those. It's just MS not doing things the right way. :/

Event Viewer isn't what it used to be. Ever since I clean installed Windows 10 in May 2020, relying on Event Viewer like we used to is kind of pointless. Seems to be the same on Windows 11.

Occasionally, when there actually IS a problem, Event Viewer can still be of use.

If you want to double check...
Open a command prompt as admin and run these commands one at a time...

sfc /scannow

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Even with my Event Viewer filled with errors, etc., I still have no problems, and this comes up clean...

I don't believe that it is anything to be concerned about. I have the same messages and they last less than a second for me.

I believe it occurs because the system is offline when it installs the update.

This is a known thing since at least a decade now, you don't have to worry about those: Disabling Windows Device Setup Manager Service

Do not worry and this just warning. You can ignore this warning!
If you can disable logs in Event Viewer rather disable Windows Device Setup Manager Service. I prefer leave this alone and just disable in Events Viewer not harm!
Open Event Viewer and open Applications and Services Logs > Microsoft > Windows > Device setup manger disable both logs and please see below the picture.
It up to you!

@Ghot advice is spot on. The event viewer is only useful if a user actually experiences a problem. Even then one doesn't have definitive information on what is causing the problem. If one tries to solve all the errors in event viewer , he'll drive himself crazy. Windows "heals itself" in many/most cases and recovers from the events.
@x BlueRobot is also correct, these particular events have been around for more than a decade for some users. It's my opinion Windows generates these events depending on the devices a user uses, his running tasks, his network and its settings, and the way his computer is optioned. Probably more machine specific things I haven't thought of as well..

Well, that has to be at least complaint about windows updates, #39,349, and yet yous guys continue to refuse to just turn off updates.

I've not gotten even one MS update in the past, since Windows 98, and all my Windows PC's work just GREAT!

I can't let this statement slide without responding. Respectfully , I return with "when will you ever learn?" What you do with your system is your business, but for you to keep suggesting such an outdated idea does not do readers justice. I truly hope no one is gullible enough to pay attention to your suggestion. I won't go into all the reasons keeping an updated system is important. They wouldn't change your mind anyway. But most readers know, understand, and accept how important keeping an updated system really is. We do not live in the olden days anymore

I spent some time yesterday looking into this. It appears that the server the device metadata is served from is not available ((unrecognized, can't ping it), hence all the errors. Hopefully they will fix this soon. There are some reports in feedback. Everyone should report it to feedback or upvote existing reports.

This cumulative update was a preview of the update that will be released on the 12th. I never install these as they do not contain any security fixes.
If they (the previevs)are being installed automatically yo should turn off the following setting.

It has nothing to do with the update, just a coincidence in time. I restored a backup from before the updates and got the errors on it too ( though at the time I made the backup, there were no errors).

@geneo THANK YOU VERY MUCH for doing that. It proves a good point. I do not deny that windows updates can (and do) cause problems for some people sometimes, and everyone at other times, but IMO people are too quick to blame an update when there are so many other conditions that come into play. What you did is the perfect test and shows how important backups are when troubleshooting.

I don't know how the rest of you do it, but I do a SFC before every update Tuesday so I'll know I go into the cumulatives as clean as possible. I figure if you go into the updates dirty, you'll come out of it even dirtier. I call it preventative maintenance.

With all due respect, what you do with your system is your business. However, when you advocate to everyone to turn off all updates you're stepping across the line. I truly hope those who depend on our most knowledgeable folks for advice will not be gullible enough to follow your wrong advice.

It's well known that on "Patch Tuesday" Microsoft not only sends out normal system updates, but also security updates. At the very least, Security Updates are all important to every system running Windows and I for one will not turn off updates today, tomorrow, or ever!

Furthermore, I will never learn to take bad advice from you or anyone else. In fact, I will suggest to everyone reading this ill advised post to please ignore it. For Windows to run properly and stay safe and secure, it is most important keep it updated. Again, with all due respect, when will you ever learn .

I've updated consistently since Windows Vista and I've never had any issues with Windows Update or any issues with my systems for that matter.

Forums are generally echo chambers, they aren't representive of the Windows user base, you're never going to see someone post about how they've had no issues with updates. Likewise, most users tend to jump to conclusions and simply blame an update for everything.

I've had a couple or three updates that didn't work right because MS did something wrong. Thing is, though, Microsoft jumped on the problem ASAP and fixed it each time within a day or so.

Yeah, there are some things I don't like, but as I've been told:

You can please some of the people all the time,
You can please all of the people some of the time,
But you can't please all of the people all the time.

Or something like that . . .

For the most part, probably because I don't "customize" my systems, it's been a long time since an update went sour for me. And, those who do customize without update problems probably know what they're doing.

These "Errors" are from July and August of this year. They were not caused by an update.
If you installed any new hardware at that time it probably caused these "errors"
