TPU's ThrottleStop


ThrottleStop is a small application designed to monitor for and correct the three main types of CPU throttling that are being used on many laptop computers.

The left side of ThrottleStop contains a variety of options which can be used to bypass CPU throttling and on the right side is a Monitoring panel that shows you the current state of each thread on your CPU.

Some laptops are using clock modulation and multiplier reductions to lower the performance and power consumption of your computer. This is done deliberately to either allow your computer to run cooler or to allow your laptop to operate with a power adapter that is not sufficient to fully power your laptop and recharge its battery at the same time.

When using ThrottleStop, it is strongly recommended to monitor power consumption at the wall with a Kill-a-Watt meter or similar device and make sure that you don't exceed the power capabilities of your power adapter. Use of ThrottleStop to bypass these throttling schemes is at your own risk and can result in permanent damage to your power adapter or computer or both which may not be covered by your warranty.

Throttlestop just like Intel's XTU is unable to read or change voltages when one is using WSL2 in Windows 11.

I installed the windows 11 insider preview, loaded up all the programs and games, but as i noticed it seems changing offset voltage no longer does anything and also some of readings are wrong (turbo ratio and memory freq) as seen here is there a workaround or microsoft added some stuff to...

I wished I could say the same. Because of Windows 11 and virtualization based security, the MSR access has been locked out so neither Throttlestop and XTU works so undervolting is not even possible.

Yes, this is unfortunately the case. But for me the benefits of undervolting are such that I have decided to continue using Throttlestop. In almost all games I play (specially PC-VR) my 12th Gen i7 CPU temperature goes up to 85~95. But when using Throttlestop it stays between 60 and max 78.
I made a script that I run to disable/enable core isolation with one click, so I can undervolt when gaming. But I really wish we could undervolt without such restrictions.

Unfortunately you do not know basic semiconductor physics and devices. When you lower voltages on devices the performance decreases so the benefit is limited to power savings, useful for Laptops with limited cooling.
Eventually the device will start to malfunction, so there is a limit to how low you can go.
Performance is lost that is a fact.

No performance lost is a fantasy.

If you do not understand basic stuff then you should not be using ThrottleStop.
