Trouble using SeaGate's "SeaTools Bootable" software.

I've been having trouble running SeaGate's "SeaTools Bootable". The first problem was that the "Secure Boot" BIOS setting was preventing it from running, but this thread helped me figure that part out. I can now get into the programme, it seems, but I'm not met with anything that looks like it matches with the software's instructions.

To be clear, this is the SeaTools download I'm using.

The user glasskuter recommended that version to me in this thread (theirs is the first reply in that thread). Manually searching for "SeaTools Bootable" brings me to this SeaGate download-page, but the download available on that page appears to be identical to that linked just above.

Here's an imgur link which has a series of pictures of my screen as I move-through the boot-up sequence of the USB-Drive. Sorry that the images are not very clear, if you need me to I can re-format them to make them clearer and then re-post them.

Picture 1 shows my "Boot Configuration" screen in my BIOS. Note that I turned "Secure Boot" off after taking that picture.

Picture 3 (it should be the second in order, I know, sorry) shows the menu-screen I'm greeted with after booting up the USB-Drive.

Picture 2 (again, this should be the third in order, sorry) is what is presented to me if I choose the rightmost option of the menu seen in picture 3. The title of the option is something like "SeaGate Command-Line Tools".

Picures 4-7 show the sequence it presents to me if I choose either the leftmost option or the central option of the menu seen in picture 3--both of those two options seem to run exactly the same sequence. The title of the leftmost option is "Boot SeaTools X", and I think the title of the central option is just "Boot SeaTools". Pressing enter at picture 7 just adds a new line with the current time and date.

Picture 8 is what it shows when I use "Ctrl+Alt+Del" to shut the PC down when at the screen of picture 7.

phone pics are usually too big to upload here. If you convert to .jpg that might help with the humongous sizes

I apologize. I did not consider you needed to now how to create the usb media when I provided that link.
Go here. It tells you how to extract the files from the zip file you downloaded and use the usbBootMaker.exe file that will automatically make your usb.There is also a readme file in the unzipped folder.

I'm repeating @zbook instructions here.. Run the Sea Tools Long Generic test > take pictures of the test results > post images or share links displaying test results

In another thread we troubleshooted the drive and in that thread the Sea Tools for Windows was reported to have passed the Long Generic test.

For failures to run Sea Tools bootable Seagate suggests:


An alternative is running Sea Tools Legacy.

@_william If that is true, why are you running us around in circles? More than one of us has said you should not be worried about one transient crash, but you persist in pursuing it.. Wait and see if it happens again and folks here can look at it with fresh eyes. We truly do not mind helping you, but you are fixated on there being a problem when possibly a problem does not exist.

@zbook Unfortunately I had already read the troubleshooting guide you linked there; it doesn't pertain to the issues I've detailed in the OP, as far as I can see.

The other thread @zbook is referring to is this one, I think, with the relevant replies sitting towards the end of that thread (I see zbook has already linked it in their reply actually). In that thread zbook helped me use "HD Sentinel" software to check my Hard-Drive; they also helped me use "SeaTools for Windows" to further check my Hard-Drive; they also helped me analyse a "SrtTrail.txt" file.

I'm trying to be thorough: I understand that there are some differences between "SeaTools Bootable" and "SeaTools for Windows", and as both were recommended to me, I want to run both of them.

Regarding your further help with "SeaTools Bootable", unfortunately the link you shared there doesn't pertain to the issues I've detailed in the OP: it's not that I can't install "SeaTools Bootable" onto an External-Drive, it's the fact that when loading that Drive I get a sequence of screens which no-one has been able to say anything about so far, nor link any information pertaining to them.

@Ghot Thanks for confirming the imgur link. I've made a Dropbox share-link anyway for anyone who has trouble with the imgur one.

Please note, "Picture 3" mentioned in the OP--showing the menu-screen--is now second in order, as it should've been in the first place; and likewise "Picture 2" mentioned in the OP--showing what looks to be various items to do with a Command Line--is now third in order.

What is the reason for running seatools?

Do you have a seagate disk, which one and is there a problem with it?

You can run Seatools for Windows from within Windows last I checked.

Most likely a filesystem error which windows has fixed. Not uncommon. No reason to think there is anything wrong with disk after looking at hd sentinel.

It is a hynix gen4 nvme . There is hynix software. Download – SK hynix SSD

I dont know if it will you tell you much more than hd sentinel , though it might alert you if firmware update becomes available

I'm abandoning this, there's no point pursuing it, it's not worth it.
