Windows 11
I had to change my motherboard since the previous one went bad, so I had to reactivate Win11 Pro on this new hardware.

But unfortunately, I can not login to the Win11Beta installation (on another drive) because I was using a PIN and that has apparently been scrapped by MS. I tried using the password from my MSN login, but that does not work. It does not provide me the option of creating a new PIN.

My guess is that the only thing I can do now is to reformat the drive, reinstall Win11 Pro and then "upgrade" that to the Insider Beta version. I don't think there is any other way to do this, as even though I have an MR image backup from before I switched motherboards, reloading that is not (AFAIK) going to change anything.

I'd hazard a guess that your Pin was held in the old motherboard's TPM.

You could try enabling the built-in Administrator account in your install of Beta. Then you could use that to reset the account password, or to create a new local account (making it an administrator) that you could use instead. Or both - I always like to have a spare local administrator account in case of emergencies like this.

Are you sure that the MSN password you tried is the right password for the MS account that you used to set up Windows previously?

I have an ISO I built already -- but my plan is to clone the Win11 Pro install, change it to an Insider, and then use the ISO to do an "update" to the latest Insider build. So, it's more of a reload than a reinstall.

That is Option Five in the tutorial. You boot to a command prompt and edit the registry of the system while it is not running..
OK, so I did all that and, after changing the password, rebooting and disabling the Admin login, I am now able to login to Win11 Beta again.

Thanks very much for your help -- it was a lot of "hoop jumping" -- but still less work than reinstalling.

Yes, it is a lot of work. Now you're back in you can create a 2nd local administrator account in case of further emergencies, all my machines have one.

:thumbsup:glad to hear that.

Yes, it is a lot of work. Now you're back in you can create a 2nd local administrator account in case of further emergencies, all my machines have one.
I had left the Admin account in place after I changed the user account password but when I rebooted, I did not get two accounts anymore; instead, it booted directly into the Admin account. I did not see a way to change that to the user account, so I disabled the Admin account.

By default at start up Windows signs in as the last account that was signed in, that was Administrator. And if the account has no password it goes straight in without prompting for a password. If you had signed out as Administrator and then back in with your account before shutting down, then it would be your account that was the last one signed in, and the default for when it starts up.

Did not know that, as all my Windows installs only have one account each. Thanks for the info.
