Unable to uninstall Edge

Is there a thread somewhere that details why Edge is, or can be some kind of a threat, other than some folks just don't like it? I have used Edge, Firefox and Chrome, but mostly Chrome, and have never experienced any kind of issues on any of them. Just curious.

I've never found Edge to be a threat, just a relentless nag full of useless features.
I like oranges, not apples, so, I don't want apples in my fruit bowl!

I switched to Edge (Chromium) when it was introduced several years ago. I had used Google Chrome for many years until then. Edge is customizable. If there are features you don't like in Edge, either don't use them or customize them to your liking. I've not found a browser I like more than Edge.

I found that I can make Firefox look any way I want it to by using CSS but this does not help the OP in any way.

Understood. I went back and looked at post #1. Your right. The conversation had drifted from there. His objective was to uninstall Edge. I've never wanted to uninstall Edge, so I can't help him.

Sorry, I'm guilty of hijacking this thread, I just wanted to know if there was a thread here somewhere, on the cons of Edge. Carry on.

I like Brave and Edge is taking up space on my drive. Plus, I like to cock a snook at Microsoft from time to time.

i have MS edge completely removed from the system along with webview.
i first blocked edge, edge update and edge webview via the firewall.
there is a .bat script i used to remove edge. then added a reg hack edge auto update disabled.
stopped and removed the edge services for updating.
then deleted the contents of C:/program files (x86)/microsoft/

thus far no updates for edge have re-appeared but i have no doubt it will re-install when winupdate does its thing.
then i will go through the process again ..

Windows 11 Pro takes up approximately 3.91% of my terabyte SSD drive. I'm not too concerned with how much of that Edge takes up.

. I don't have such a large drive and space is important to me. And Edge seems to trigger a lot of processes that I don't want or need. Chacun à son goût.

Hopefully space is not the biggest issue here with Edge, if so, they might want to break out the old MS-DOS on their 5.25in Floppy. :lmao:

I used edge for a few days as I was having issues with YouTube. The quality of the Video was better

No, but if one lives in The EU and MS allows EDGE to be removed only in The EU, then A user should be able to do it.

In a real world we ought to be able to easily remove any program that we don't like in any Windows Edition, regardless of where we live. I guess we're just leasing it from MS.

If you read the EULA, Microsoft owns the operating system. You're only paying Microsoft for the right to use what Microsoft owns. You can never actually buy it and own it yourself.

I don't think they could ever take it away, unless it's a pirated copy, it's probably the same with any software, you buy the license to use it. You don't actually buy the software itself.

I had Edge stable installed...
• it would never honor my settings..., turn off Collections and Performance Toolbar buttons, they would be back on the next time I opened the browser!
• constant nagging to make Edge your default browser, or Bing your default search engine..., and only choices of Okay or Maybe later!
• "Edge is the best browser for Windows 11, make it your default" Simply not true!

... I could go on but, what's the point...

@Edwin, It's interesting that I've used Edge for several years now and don't have the problems you do. I know you're one of the most knowledgeable members on here. I really don't know what to say.
