Thank you.

To be fair nothing wrong so far, it's just I have games on my PC and I just want to avoid any problem from installing game updates that can involve GBs of file transfers.

Sorry, I am not sure why you think that the Cumulative Update will cause problems. I’m not at my best today, it’s me, not you.

Sometimes Windows Sandbox can cause issues. See if it’s enabled, disable it then try removing the update again.

Open Control Panel
• Press the Windows key
• Type "Control Panel" and press Enter

Go to Windows Features
• Click "Programs"
• Then click "Turn Windows features on or off"

Disable Windows Sandbox
• Scroll down the list
• Find "Windows Sandbox"
• Uncheck the box next to it

Apply and Restart
• Click OK
• Restart your computer

Uninstall the Update
• Open Command Prompt as Administrator
• Run the following command:

wusa /uninstall /kb:5063878

When you upgrade to Pro (used a key?) It can take a while as you would have noticed. My understanding is that it’s checking things twice, making it nice (santa clause is coming to…)

See how you go with Sandbox first.

Per MS August 12, 2025—KB5063878 (OS Build 26100.4946) - Microsoft Support
This update cannot be removed the normal way thru Windows Update>Uninstall update
.
"To remove the LCU after installing the combined SSU and LCU package, use the DISM/Remove-Package command line option with the LCU package name as the argument. You can find the package name by using this command: DISM /online /get-packages.

Running Windows Update Standalone Installer (wusa.exe) with the /uninstall switch on the combined package will not work because the combined package contains the SSU. You cannot remove the SSU from the system after installation."

No worries, all is fine. Isn't KB5063878 the update that is causing SSD failures, correct me if I'm wrong.

Unfortunately I have already Windows Sandbox disabled, and I still get the error 0x800f0825.

All in all, it's also possible to wait for the next update/fix too.

Sure it is.

Alternatively you could try DISM to remove the package.

1. Open Command Prompt as Administrator
• Press the Windows key
• Type "cmd"
• Right-click "Command Prompt" and choose "Run as administrator"

2. Find the exact package name for KB5063878
• In the Command Prompt window, run:

Code:
DISM /Online /Get-Packages | findstr KB5063878

• Look for a line that starts with "Package_for_KB5063878"
Example:
Package_for_KB5063878~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~10.0.26100.4946

3. Use DISM to remove the package
• Replace the full package name below with the one you found (if different)
• Run this command:

Code:
DISM /Online /Remove-Package /PackageName:Package_for_KB5063878~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~10.0.26100.4946

4. Wait for the process to complete
• It may take a few minutes
• Restart your computer when finished

You can select text in a command window then on your keyboard hit Ctrl + C
It may look like nothing happened but it should be in your clipboard to paste.
This lessens typing errors when creating the command I mentioned at the end, above.

I have no idea what that might be linked to or why you attempted to remove that when it isn’t the package in question?

My advice would be to hang loose. Microsoft knows about this, the hysteria (and events) is wide spread and Microsoft is allegedly talking with SSD manufacturers to sort it out ASAP.
I have no idea which SSD’s it is affecting. And your PC specs are incomplete. Add the Model under the laptop to where it says “Manufacturer/Model” into your System Specs

I tried searching for 'KB5063878' with the 'findstr KB5063878' command as you mentioned, but the CMD found nothing too.
So I tried searching for the text '26100.4946.1.26', which is the OS build of the problematic package KB5063878, and I found that package I mentioned on my previous comments.

As you said, the best bet is probably wait for Microsoft to address the problem through updates or fixes. Thanks for the help.

I'll update the system specs on my profile

Thanks for sharing the script. I tried to run it, and I guess Windows is still persistent on not permitting me to uninstall the KB5063878 by giving me this error after running the script:
Remove-WindowsPackage : Permanent package cannot be uninstalled.
No luck for me, but it might be useful for someone else who has better luck here.

Odd, I removed it from a couple hundred devices yesterday. I could see someone having trouble removing it if they did a DISM /StartComponentCleanup /ResetBase or something, but this update is removable generally speaking.

I think you are correct because right after I installed KB5063878 I did a DISM Restore Health because I was having issues getting DISM Cleanup to complete. And now I cannot remove KB5063878 either.
