Update not working

Windows update checks but encounters errors. (0x80070005)

I looked at the Windows Update tab in Services and it says - Disabled. However, it denies access to change the setting.

Can I change this via the registry perhaps?

0x80070005 is access denied and means the user does not have administrative access permissions. Some causes can be group policy settings, a user without admin rights, corrupt or missing system files, 3rd party AV. If it is none of those, perform a repair install.

This computer only has one user, and I am the administrator.
AFAIK there are no group policy settings
SFC reveals no corrupt files.
I am not using 3rd party AV.

Repair install ... the cure seems worse than the disease.
