Update Release Preview (24H2) to Stable (24H2)

I installed 26100.863 (Release Preview, 24H2) using ISO from 22631.3737 (23H2). Can i go back to Stable when 24H2 released?

You're on stable. We'll have to see the final build no when the general availability build is made available.

26100.863 is definitely the most "stable" version of 24H2 that has been released so far. There is nothing special about the earlier versions that makes them any more "stable". The versions prior to the first RP build (prior to 26100.560) were early builds that were sent out to device manufacturers so that they would have something to start putting on devices that they were prepping for sale. 26100.1 was the first of those builds that I know of. There is nothing especially "stable" about those builds. On the contrary, those builds are pretty much derived directly from builds that were on the Canary and Dev channels (which were synced at the time) and are riddled with bugs. If you were to buy a device that actually shipped with one of those builds on it, one of the very first things it would do upon booting for the first time would be to update itself to 26100.863. That's intended.

You're not in the Insider program, so there's no question about exiting that.

I'm unsure about whether the preview will get the release version via Windows Update. I expect that it will.

If not, just get the ISO of the release version, and upgrade to it. No big deal.

You will get the latest updates of 26100 from Windows Update even you havn't registered to RP channel, if you hardware meets the requirement.

From the reviews on the new Copilot+ PCs I have watched thus far, I know that these systems are shipping with 26100.712. As was mentioned, those machines will now upgrade to 26100.863 via Windows update.

So, at least as far as those machines go, you could consider 26100.712 to be an "RTM" version of Windows.

If I understand correctly, on the insider program I have to do a clean install to leave RP or I turn it off and wait until the updates catch up to the stable version.

If you are on the Release Preview builds, you will eventually get the final released version of 24H2. You can withdraw from the insider program now if you wish and you will still continue to get updates. I am no longer in the insider program, and I still get the updates. We are currently on 26100.1150 on the Release Preview.

If you want to go back to 23H2 for now, you need to reinstall.
