Update stuck after reboot

I know - happens to everyone, but all my searches haven't overly helped me find an easy fix for mine. My PC is a 4-mth old gaming one (tho I don't use it for gaming), with an ASRock MB and Win 11 which I stupidly forgot to take the automatic updates option off! Most have been fine until today's one which has stuck on the black screen with the "Updates are installing...." text. So far I've just done the hard reset with peripheral removals, as I can't access anything else. I can't find a way to get into safe mode as I thought maybe that would work, but presumably not.

I'm disabled & this is my main PC - the laptop I'm using here is hard for me to type on & use for veery much but so glad I have it at least for this.

Anyone have patience to walk me through a possible fix?

To remove and cancel pending Windows updates using DISM, use the /RevertPendingActions.

If your computer is stuck in an update loop or failing to boot properly, use the Windows Recovery Environment and from Command Prompt execute following command and reboot your system.

Run the following DISM command (replace C: with your Windows drive letter if it differs):

If Windows fails to load, force restart the PC using the physical power button two times in a row. On the third boot, it will trigger automatic repair, letting you click Advanced options to enter WinRE.

One of our machines did the same thing so I went into recovery and restarted in safe mode. The problem update was removed and it booted properly The update later installed without a problem. Hope that helps.

I* can't even get into WRE as it never gers to the Window logo to reset it for an automatic repair, nor can I get into it via holding down the shift key when rebooting mainly because I have to switch it off completely rather than a reboot. Equally I don't have any recovery keys etc. Think I may just take it somewhere tomorrow as I'm too sore & too tired trying to fight with it. I have used WRE before just not on this PC not that it prob makes little odds. Apologies - I appreciate the input - I'm just in one of those duhh states where nothing is easy :( .

You need to boot your computer with Windows 11 installation USB or DVD to start WinRE.

Something significantly wrong if you can't use SHIFT left click restart. What you say sounds weird.

So. as per the tutorial I cited for you, power down. Start from cold, press the power button, then just after it starts to boot, try holding the power button for about 5s immediately and repeat that 3 times in succession.

@dalchina maybe OP can't reach login screen to click Restart button.

Did you read my post #4 above? When it's trying to boot press the power button till it shuts down. Repeat it 3 times and it will load winRE.
Dalchina also said same thing.

FINALLY!! Not quite sure how I did itas we're 10 restarts later but it did come up with the Automatic repair statement & then it wass diagnosing the problem, before restarting & boom right back to square one - only difference is that it's now stuck on "Please wait"!!

Oh my word after all that it finally did what i wish it had hours ago - it said there was a problem & it was removing the update & it's just booted into Windows. So lessons learnt - I'll get a recovery disk orted & stop updates automatically installing etc. But THANK YOU to everyone who's pitched in to help!
