Updating Motherboard Drivers?

After reading a few post suggesting about updating chipset drivers I decided to check for updated drivers for my new desktop. I check and I have the latest Bios so no update is needed. I updated the Intel Chipset drivers and now I'm getting ready to update the Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver. During the install it shows that my desktop is using AHCI and recommends to switch to the RST Premium mode. Should I switch or stay in ACHI mode? My Motherboard is the ASROCK Z490 Phantom Gaming 4/ax.

Just to add for NVME PCIE 4 Samsung didn't even bother to create a driver. A lot of users don't even install ant drivers and are satisfied with MS 2006 original drivers. Imagine, 25 year old drivers and they still do the job. 😉

1. I don't use RAID.
2. The board doesn't have the Optane Memory module. My old desktop did and I replaced it with a 1GB drive to use as the C: drive.
3. The drive the OS is installed on is a NVMe (PCIe 4x 8.0 GT/s)
If it's not going to improve the performance, I'll stay with AHCI.

If you use the RST driver and say want to add a Samsung NVMe then it's pretty much impossible to install the Samsung drivers. That's my experience anyway.

Yeah, 25 year old driver that has the same version number as the version of Windows you are running. Then again I would hope you know why Microsoft dates the default Windows drivers (any and all) that way.

What does device manager have to say about the chipset driver, IDE.....
Does it list it properly as intel 4k.....or as some generic ahci driver ?

(BIOs) Update (=Flash) could be useful in some cases, because through the update, you could go from TPM 1.2 to TPM 2.0 which is required for WIN 11. But read a lot before doing it !

    Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 15 years?
Device Manager may still call it that, but getting someone to try and update an IDE driver anymore is almost like sending them on a snipe hunt.

Guess you have some other clever way to tell someone where excactly the chipset driver is list in device manager lol :lmao:

You may have to point them to the IDE listing, but you certainly don't tell them to update the IDE driver. Give it another 10 years and maybe Microsoft will finally change the naming for it (and that is being generous because if you look in the right places you can find UI settings that are older than XP).

Device Manager only shows the Standard SATA AHCI Controller.
