Upgrading motherboard for Windows 11

I have been running Windows 10 on an Asus x99 Delux II motherboard with an Intel i7 quad processor. This mb will not run Windows 11 so I need to buy another motherboard. I use Photoshop and video editing software but not games. My graphics card is an Nvidea GFX 1050. My storage is M2 Nvme with 32GB DDR4 memory.
My question is what might be a suitable new motherboard for a new Intel i7 processor to run Windows 11?

You can force 11 to be installed on your motherboard, but it won't be officially supported. Some Microsoft people have suggested that unsupported Win 11 installations won't receive Windows Updates at some time, but so far that has not happened.

If you want to go to a 12th generation Intel CPU, and want a motherboard that is currently (September 2022) available, that'd be a 600 series board. (The highest end boards use the Z690 chipset.) On October 20. 2022, Intel will be releasing Gen 13 CPUs, and third-party makers will offer 700 series motherboards for them. Some 600 series boards with updated firmware will run the Gen 13 CPUs. The 700 series boards will be backwards compatible with Gen 12 CPUs.

If you want an HEDT (high end desktop) board like the X99 (with quad channel memory), I'm unaware of any official launch dates.

Assuming Intel... any of these. I'd stay above the $259 board, and look for one with 4-5 stars...

The TUF and the ROG Strix are decent motherboards. The ROG Strix have all the bells and whistles.

At top right, you can choose whichever country you're in... to see appropriate prices.


As for AMD... they're just about to come out with the X670 motherboards. They have a few lower end ones already.
I'd probably wait on buying an AMD board till they have the X670 ROG Strix boards out in force.

The X570 boards are fine, but they are socket AM4 and DDR4 RAM.
The X670 boards are socket AM5, and take DDR5 RAM
Seems they also have AMD X670E motherboards. E for extreme.



If you're gonna get the latest and greatest... I'd stick with Intel right now.
Give AMD another 3-6 months to get it together. <--- maybe tax return time in 2023.

It probably could but Asus don't even list this board anymore and therefor their site will not allow me to download newer bios files either automatically or manually.

What would bios have to do with anything? I'm running 11 on my 775

Latest non-beta BIOS... Version 1902 (2018/04/26)


Also your BIOS has Secure Boot, and your motherboard has a connector for a TPM module.
However, I doubt you'll be able to find a legit TPM module.

As for Windows 11... you can run it on just about anything.

X99 Deluxe II

I don't know whether that board supports PTT (platform trust technology, which is Intel's firmware TPM), but I doubt that. (2016 board.) It's not necessary for a forced install, I believe. The board has UEFI and Secure Boot, so it should be OK.

I admit that I've never bypassed the TPM 2.0 requirement.

I installed 11 on a laptop that met all requirements, except it has a Gen6 Intel CPU. (Gen 8 or later is required for a supported install, except for some X suffix Gen 7. Your CPU is Gen 3.)

I know everything about TPM it's just stupid from my point of view to added this requirement
