Hi,

Recently updated my entire PC, and have an odd thing occurring in Device Manager

I have an ASUS z790 motherboard (the ProArt Creator WiFi), and a Corsair K70 RBG usb keyboard.

For some odd reason,. I have a PS/2 keyboard shown in Device Manager, and if the PC wakes rom sleep, this device shows as an error but my keyboard still works without any issues. Note this Motherboard has no PS/2 port.

I have installed the latest bios for the motherboard, have all the latest drivers installed. I have emailed both Corsair and ASUS support and they were no help. Maybe a guru on this forum will have an idea why this is happening?

I would delete that device within device manager and reboot, check again after signing in to see if it's gone for good.

I have done that many times, it always reappears. I can also delete it, put the pc to sleep and then it will reappear, but now with an error. This has been driving me mad since upgrading.

I wouldn't worry about it, have the same entry in the Notebook I'm on now and my other Notebooks, I think it's there in case I plug in an External keyboard as I have never had to install drivers when using one. PS/2 is needed on the Notebook I have from MS-DOS/Win3.1 days for mouse support.

Ok, but this is a desktop. First time I have ever had this. Odd thing is if I plug the same keyboard into my older system (x99 chipset), it only shows the keyboard as usb, no ps/2 devices are shown.

It is an intel machine

Possibly using the browse from device manager method, one of the .inf files in there will change the description in device manager. Worth a try.

I have ps2 showing in msinfo problem devices, but nothing in device manager. In the case of this motherboard I suspect it is because the ps2 port ( on the back panel ) has nothing in it.

Reinstalled the chipset drivers, still the same issue. This wouldn't be a big problem if it did not show errors after resuming from sleep in Device Manager. I have even tried to disable the ps/2 service i8042prt using sc, but then there is an error after reboot, where it shows the device could not be started.
